An official with the World Health Organisation said Rafah's last hospital could become non-functional if Israel launches a full-scale invasion into the city.

"If the incursion would continue, we would lose the last hospital in Rafah," Richard Peeperkorn said on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

He said that such an invasion would mean a "substantial additional mortality and morbidity".

On Monday, the director of the Kuwait Hospital in Rafah said the facility was no longer operational, following a strike that killed two of its staff members.

Dr Muhammad Salha, the director of Al Awda Hospital in northern Gaza has said that the medical facility continues to be under siege by Israeli forces.

14 health workers remain trapped at the complex with immobile patients by a 10-day Israeli siege.

Salha said they would not leave the hospital without ambulances to transport the patients.

In a message shared with Medical Aid for Palestinians, Salha said the hospital was suffering from a "shortage of everything," with dwindling supplies of food, fuel and medicene and no access to clean water.

He reported "repeated gunfire and explosions in the vicinity of the hospital."

"We are still 14 health workers, who have remained with the wounded and sick, and will not leave the hospital and not leave the wounded and sick in the hospital without care," he said.

An Israeli military spokesperson has said that the cause of the fire that erupted in a Rafah displacement camp as a result of an Israeli air strike is still unclear.

An internal investigation into Sunday's attack is ongoing.

According to the spokesperson, Israeli aircraft dropped two 17 kg bombs, claiming that the bombs were the smallest air munitions and incapable of causing a fire of that scale.

The spokesperson added that they were investigating the possibility that weapons stored in a nearby compound cause the fire.

Denmark's parliament has voted down a bill to recognise a Palestinian state.

The bill was proposed in late February by four left-wing parties, but was rejected after the Danish foreign minister said the preconditions for an independent state lacking.

"We cannot recognise an independent Palestinian state, for the sole reason that the preconditions are not really there," Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said when the bill was first debated in parliament in April.

Norway, Ireland and Spain formally recognised a Palestinian state on Tuesday, despite Israeli threats.

Since Israel's war on Gaza began on 7 October, Denmark has argued that Israel has a right to defend itself, but more recently it has urged the country to show restraint and respect international law.
