Belgium could consider Palestine as a sovereign state, says foreign minister

Belgium's Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib says her country is open to recognising Palestine as a state "when the moment comes".

Her statements come during a Nato summit, where foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels today.

Lahbib has also condemned the international response to the war on Gaza, stating that the UN Security Council resolution that was passed last week calling for an "immediate ceasefire" in the besieged enclave seems to be ineffective. 

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the resolution "must be implemented without delay".
