Canadian legal rights groups file lawsuit against government over Gaza

A coalition of Canada-based lawyers and activists has annouced it is filing a lawsuit charging the Canadian government with violating the Genocide Convention.

The "Coalition for Canadian Accountability in Gaza," which includes the Legal Centre for Palestine, is representing two Palestinian-Canadians who have family members trapped in Gaza.

Citing the Genocide Convention of 1948, which requires the prevention and punishment of genocide, the coalition said that the lawsuit "asserts that Canada has failed in its legal prevention of genocide".

Additionally, the coalition said in a statement that Canada has violated their plaintiffs' rights to security and equal protection "by failing to act to prevent genocide in Gaza".
