Death toll from Mawasi and Shati 'massacres' tops 100
The death toll from yesterday's Israeli attacks on Mawasi refugee camp in Khan Younis and Shati camp in Gaza City has risen to at least 110.
In Mawasi, at least 90 Palestinians were killed and 300 injured after Israeli war planes targeted tents sheltering displaced people in a designated "safe zone". Not long after, Israeli forces bombed a prayer hall in Shati refugee camp, where people had gathered for noon prayers, killing at least 20.
Mohammed Aghaalkurdi of Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) witnessed the attack on Mawasi and described the scenes as being "beyond comprehension".
"Ambulances streamed in relentlessly for over two hours. The emergency department overflowed with patients on beds, floors and corridors. Some of them have had their amputated limbs beside them. Blood stained the ground. The smell of burnt flesh was overwhelming," he said.
A video released by MAP revealed Palestinians digging by hand to retrieve those buried in the sand.
"I don't know what to say, the situation is a tragedy. I am not exaggerating, we have a funeral every 15 minutes leaving the hospital. This has been ongoing since the incident. One by one, people are getting killed," Aghaalkurdi said.
He added that Nasser and Amal hospitals in Khan Younis, as well as the Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah, were overwhelmed and were no longer able to receive wounded people.
The death toll from this morning’s Israeli military attack on al-Mawasi has now reportedly risen to 90, with 300 injured.
