Heavy fighting as Israel announces new Gaza City operation

The Israeli army said it has launched a new operation in Gaza City's Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood, claiming to have knowledge of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad infrastructure and operatives in the area.

The military also said it was operating at Unrwa's headquarters in the area, claiming it has been used by Hamas.

Palestinians said this was one the heaviest attacks since the start of the war on 7 October.

Gaza's Civil Emergency Service said they believed dozens of people have been killed in eastern Gaza, but their teams have been unable to reach them due to the ongoing offensive in the Tal al-Hawa, Sabra, Daraj, Rimal, and Tuffah neighbourhoods.
