Israel Katz: Hamas will pay a heavy price

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that the army would "act forcefully" and attack targets across Gaza. 

Katz threatened that "Hamas will pay a heavy price for any shooting and violation of the ceasefire".

The Israeli military said the strikes were in response to an alleged attack by Palestinians on its troops in southern Rafah. However, Hamas' armed wing has denied any knowledge of or connection to the incident.

Several Palestinians have been wounded and killed in the blockaded strip since Sunday morning - the latest in a string of Israeli breaches of the truce deal.
