Macron lambasts Netanyahu over 'unacceptable' election interference in France
French President Emmanuel Macron lambasted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over election interference in the country during a phone call last week, reported Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, citing two sources familiar with the conversation's details.
In the weeks leading to the EU parliament elections and the French parliamentary elections, Israel’s Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli from Netanyahu’s Likud Party openly came out in support of Marine Le Pen's far-right party.
Chikli, who is also responsible for combating antisemitism, has been developing ties with far-right parties in Europe, many of which, like Le Pen's party, have an antisemitic past or present.
Macron told Netanyahu in the phone call that the interference by Israeli government officials in the French parliamentary elections was "unacceptable".
