Nearly 800,000 students in Gaza denied education by Israel: Report

The Ministry of Education says Israel’s war has severely impacted Gaza’s education sector, leaving hundreds of thousands of students without access to schooling.

The ministry reported on Tuesday in a report carried by Wafa that:

  • 788,000 students in Gaza have been out of school since 7 October 2023

  • For the second year, high school students in Gaza couldn’t take exams

  • 352 public schools damaged, 111 completely destroyed

  • 91 public and 89 Unrwa schools bombed

  • 20 higher education institutions severely hit, with 60 university buildings destroyed

  • 152 schools and 8 universities stormed in the West Bank

  • School walls destroyed in Jenin, Tulkarm, Bruqin and Kafr al-Dik

  • 6 Unrwa schools in Jerusalem remain shut since 8 May

  • 12 kindergartens for displaced children have opened in Jenin, Tulkarm and Qabatiya

The ministry confirmed that high school exams have begun in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
