Netanyahu moves to dismiss Shin Bet chief amid growing distrust

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans to propose the dismissal of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar during a government meeting this week.

Netanyahu accused Bar of attempting to “blackmail” him, following claims by Bar’s predecessor, Nadav Argaman, that he possesses significant knowledge that could be used against the prime minister.

In a statement, Netanyahu emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, “We are in the midst of a war for our very existence – a war on seven fronts.”

He added, “At all times, but especially in such an existential war, the prime minister must have full confidence in the Shin Bet chief. Unfortunately, I do not have such confidence. This distrust has grown over time.”
