Number of dead in Gaza likely more than 40,000: Unrwa chief
The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) says the death toll in Gaza crossing 40,000 was a “very grim milestone”.
“Forty-thousand lives reportedly gone in just over 10 months in Gaza. And possibly, it’s even more. Whatever dispute there is over the numbers, there is no dispute over the immense suffering,” he posted on X.
“This is a direct result of a collective failure to reach a ceasefire,” he noted, adding that more than 200 Unrwa members had been killed in the 10-month-long war.
A very grim milestone at the world’s watch.
