Palestinian Ministry of Education condemns Israeli closure of Unrwa schools
The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education has condemned the Israeli closure of Unrwa schools in occupied Jerusalem on Thursday.
The ministry described the closure as a direct attack on education, calling it part of an ongoing campaign against education in the city.
“This act is a violation of international norms, particularly the right to education and the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry also renewed its call for international bodies, especially Unesco and Unicef, to take action and protect refugee children’s right to education. It warned that if the occupation is not held accountable, further attacks on schools in Jerusalem are likely.
Israeli police forces surrounded the schools after issuing evacuation and closure orders leaving around 800 students without access to eduction.
