Unrwa chief confident he is on 'right side of history'

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, says it has been “stressful” leading Unrwa during the war on Gaza but says he is confident he is "on the right side of history".

In January, claiming Unrwa had ties to Hamas, Israel passed a law banning the agency from operating in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Lazzarini decried "an extraordinary war of disinformation" against the agency that threatened to collapse the aid group, jeopardising “the life and survival of civilians” there.

“I have been given a voice, and obviously I need to use this voice,” Lazzarini said. “That is the minimum we owe to the Palestinian refugees who are pretty voiceless.”
