US and UK air strikes in Yemen kill 37, Houthi leader says

About 424 air strikes conducted by the US and Britain in Yemen have resulted in 37 deaths and 30 injuries, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen's Houthi movement, said on Thursday.

In a televised speech, al-Houthi said that 90 vessels in the Red Sea were attacked, and there was a surge and spread of drone strikes into new areas.

He said 34 attacks had been launched in a month, using 125 ballistic missiles and drones.

Since November, the Houthis have launched attacks on international maritime traffic in the Red Sea in what they say is in support of the Palestinians amid the war in Gaza. This has led to retaliatory strikes by the US and Britain starting in February.
