US, EU welcome truce extension; no Israeli statement yet

US President Joe Biden issued a statement welcoming the two-day extension of the truce between Israel and Hamas.
Qatar announced the truce earlier, and Hamas confirmed the agreement shortly thereafter. Only Israel has yet to offer a confirmation of its own.
The European Union foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, says he has conveyed his support for the extension in talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
Borrell said it would “allow for more humanitarian aid to Gaza and further release of hostages”.“I commended Egypt’s key role in achieving this agreement,” he added.
