Day six of fighting between Israel and Gaza ends with almost 3,000 dead in total

As day six of fighting between the Israelis and Palestinians draws to a close,  here is our latest update, summing up events.

More than 1,500 Palestinians and 1,300 Israeli have been killed so far.

The bombardment of the Gaza Strip continues into the night.

Here are the key updates from the past several hours:

  • Human Rights Watch has confirmed that Israel has used white phosphorous in the Gaza Strip, as well as in Lebanon, something which the rights group said it was doing "unlawfully."

  • A Palestinian woman was shot dead by settlers in the West Bank according to her family speaking to MEE while settlers have continued to attack various cities and villages in the occupied territory.

  • Hamas said it would not release any Israeli prisoners as long as the attacks on Gaza continued.

  • Israel's air force said it dropped 6,000 bombs on Gaza.
