US President Joe Biden has given a public address on the Israel-Palestine War. Here are the key points:
- At least 14 Americans have been killed so far.
- The US is surging increased military assistance to Israel, including ammunition and interceptors for Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system.
- Washington is deploying US government experts to consult with Israel on hostages.
- Biden made no mention of Israel's large-scale bombardment of Gaza and its civilian casualties, or its decision to impose a full siege on the already blockaded enclave. He later said: “we uphold the laws of war”. The European Union and a UN special rapporteur on Tuesday went on the record to state that some of Israel’s actions in the siege and bombing of Gaza violate international law.
