Israeli military: At least 240 hostages held by Palestinian group in Gaza

In a press conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari of the Israeli navy said that the families of 240 hostages held by Palestinian groups in Gaza have been informed of their capture.

That number might still be higher as the Israeli army continues to investigate the events of 7 October, when Hamas-led fighters attacked southern Israel.

Hagari also said that the current death toll among the Israeli army since the beginning of hostilities was 315.

That number excludes dozens of police officers, who were also killed.

Hamas has released four hostages and the Israeli army claims to have rescued another during an operation on Monday night.
