Saudi defence minister calls for immediate ceasefire with Biden advisor

Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman called for an immediate ceasefire to the war during a meeting with White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

A White House readout of the meeting said the two discussed the war, but didn’t mention talk of a ceasefire. The US said last week it is opposed to a ceasefire, but supports a humanitarian pause to the fighting. 

The White House statement said Sullivan confirmed the US’s commitment to support the defence of its partners against threats from state and non-state actors, including those backed by Iran. It also said the two discussed humanitarian aid for Gaza.
