Syrian Christian family turned away from US

A Syrian Christian family has been denied entry to the US as a result of Trump's executive order despite an earlier pledge to make allowances for threatened non-Muslim minorities in the seven countries the ban applies to.

The Assalis - two brothers, their wives and children - had been attempting to fly to the US from Doha in order to reconnect with family members already living in Pennsylvania.

According to CNN, the family were told they would not be allowed to enter the country on Saturday and were told they could either be detained or fly back to Doha - they chose the latter.

Trump has previously said that he would prioritise Christian refugees from the Middle East.
