UK's opposition Labour Party criticised for crackdown on pro-ceasefire voices
The UK's opposition Labour Party is deeply divided over party leader Keir Starmer's response to the conflict in Gaza.
Starmer, a former human rights lawyer, has been a keen supporter of Israel's retaliatory strikes against Palestinians in Gaza and had backed its right to withdraw water supplies to the region before walking back on his statements.
Starmer opposes a ceasefire to end the Israeli bombardment that has killed more than 8,500 people so far but many in his party are calling for and to the air strikes.
Expressions of solidarity with Palestinians have been censured within the party in recent years and the most recent victim of the campaign was MP Andy MacDonald, who was suspended for calling for peace among Palestinians and Israelis between "the river and the sea".
