The family of the Turkish-American activist slain by Israeli forces is demanding the US government launch an independent investigation into her killing.

Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers while taking part in a demonstration in Beita, near Nablus in the West Bank.

"A US citizen, Aysenur was peacefully standing for justice when she was killed by a bullet that video shows came from an Israeli military shooter," the family said in a statement.

"Given the circumstances of Aysenur's killing, an Israeli investigation is not adequate," the family added.

"We call on President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Secretary of State Blinken to order an independent investigation into the unlawful killing of a US citizen and to ensure full accountability."

Israeli forces have demolished 45 agricultural buildings and homes in the Taybeh area, northwest of Hebron, Wafa news agency is reporting, citing local sources.

Wafa spoke to Ayman Shalaldeh, a local Palestinian resident, who said that residents had been barred from the area for a week by Israeli forces. On their return, they discovered the destruction.

He said his property, which was a two-story stone building with a water tank and a warehouse, and a residential area on the top floor, had been demolished

The heads of American and British foreign intelligence agencies say they are "working tirelessly" towards a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza.

In an opinion piece for the Financial Times, CIA director Bill Burns and MI6 chief Richard Moore said that their agencies had "exploited our intelligence channels to push hard for restraint and de-escalation".

They added that a ceasefire in Gaza “could end the suffering and appalling loss of life of Palestinian civilians and bring home the hostages after 11 months of hellish confinement”.

Despite US President Joe Biden's claims that truce talks have been progressing positively, a Turkish foreign ministry spokesperson said on 3 September that Washington wasn't exerting any real pressure on Israel and that the US has told Hamas that that "they would continue the current talks for two more weeks and then end them if there is no resolution".

In addition, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been making new demands during each round of ceasefire talks.

The negotiations currently focus on the status of the Philadelphi Corridor, a buffer zone along the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt, as well as the Rafah border crossing and the exchange of Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas has ruled out allowing an Israeli presence in the buffer zone, while Netanyahu “refuses to leave the Philadelphi Corridor and has imposed new conditions on the Rafah border crossing”, the spokesperson said.

Goldenberg, 27, was "documented being led out of the Lev police station in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening, handcuffed by her hands and feet", according to Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

Protesters were heard denouncing Ben Gvir as a "murderer" and that he was "responsible of the death of prisoners".

The former head of Israel’s security agency, Shin Bet, has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of exaggerating the importance of maintaining control of the Philadelphi Corridor, the buffer zone between Gaza and Egypt.

“There is no connection between the weaponry found in Gaza and the Philadelphi Corridor,” Nadav Argaman told Israel’s Channel 12 news

Argaman, who headed the Shin Bet between 2016 and 2021, said the majority of weapons entered Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.

“When Netanyahu speaks of remaining on the Philadelphi Corridor, he knows very well that no smuggling takes place over the Philadelphi Corridor. So we are now relegated to living with this imaginary figment,” he said.

Hamas has firmly rejected Israeli demands on maintaining a military presence in the buffer zone, while Netanyahu has insisted that under a truce agreement, there would be no Israeli withdrawal.

Argaman said Netanyahu's position was only intended to keep his government in power.

Satellite images have revealed a new road paved by Israeli forces running the length of Gaza's border with Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor, the BBC is reporting.

The imagery, which was analysed by BBC Verify, shows fresh tarmac appearing along a section of road extending 6.4km inland from the coast along the border fence between 26 August and 5 September.

On 4 September, video footage circulated online revealed construction vehicles laying fresh tarmac along the corridor.

Commentators view the revelations as a signal that Israeli forces would not withdraw from the area any time soon.

The corridor has emerged as a major sticking point in ceasefire negotiations.

Hamas has ruled out any Israeli presence, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that under a truce agreement, there would be no Israeli withdrawal from the Philadelphi and Netzarim corridors.

"The axis of evil needs the Philadelphi Corridor, and for that reason, we must control the Philadelphi Corridor," he told a news conference in Jerusalem on 2 September.
