By a crushing majority, the 17 judges of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled more than five months ago that Israel was “plausibly” committing genocide in Gaza.

The highest court in the world put Israel on trial, accused of the ultimate crime against humanity.

Much has happened since that decision - and all of it is even more incriminating against Israel than the evidence considered by the World Court back in January.

Tens of thousands more Palestinian civilians are dead or missing, most likely under rubble. Gaza is now a wasteland, one that will take many decades to rebuild.

Till then, the population has nowhere to live, nor institutions such as hospitalsschools, universities and government offices to care for them, nor infrastructure like functioning electricity and sewage systems to rely on.

The Israeli military launched a new massive assault on Gaza City in the early hours of Monday, forcibly displacing thousands of Palestinian families into the unknown in the dead of the night.

The scene was likened to “the day of judgement” by eyewitnesses and survivors, who said the bombing intensity was reminiscent of the initial invasion of Gaza at the start of the war.

Heavy air strikes started around midnight and lasted into the early hours of Monday, rocking the war-ravaged area and sending people into a panic.

Under shelling, families were forced to leave Gaza City's eastern and southeastern areas on Sunday after Israel said it was going to operate there.

Brazil has enacted a long-pending free trade agreement with the Palestinian Authority, demonstrating support for the Palestinian people.

"The agreement is a tangible step toward an economically viable Palestinian state that can coexist peacefully with its neighbors," Brazil's foreign ministry stated on Monday.

It remains unclear if other Mercosur members will ratify the agreement. Argentina's right-wing government, led by President Javier Milei, is not expected to do so. The foreign ministries of Uruguay and Paraguay have not responded to requests for comment.

Ibrahim Al Zeben, the Palestinian ambassador in Brasilia, praised Brazil's decision as "courageous, supportive, and timely."

"This is the effective way to support peace in Palestine," Al Zeben told Reuters, expressing hope that Palestine's trade with Mercosur, currently at $32 million a year, will increase.

Negotiations on reaching a ceasefire in Gaza faced more challenges on Monday after Israel launched a new offensive on Gaza City, where Palestinians have reported ferocious Israeli bombardment.

Hamas released a statement quoting the group’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, saying that the assault "could bring the negotiation process back to square one. Netanyahu and his army will bear full responsibility for the collapse of this path”.

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published demands that any hostage deal with Hamas would not prevent Israel from restarting fighting in the besieged enclave, and also that the deal would prevent the smuggling of weapons from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula into Gaza.

Netanyahu’s new demands, along with Israel’s intense bombardment, dealt a blow to the US’s claim last week that mediators had reached “a breakthrough” on months-long talks.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa) has reopened a health centre in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, following severe damage it sustained in January, as reported on X.

Unrwa emphasised that this facility is vital as there are no other health centres nearby, crucial for supporting displaced families who have returned seeking shelter in the area.

In recent days, Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis had to suspend services due to fuel shortages, leaving only one partially operational hospital in southern Gaza.

Despite being designated as humanitarian "safe zones" by Israel, Khan Younis, Rafah, and al-Mawasi in southern Gaza have experienced multiple attacks

Yemen's Houthis claimed they conducted a joint military operation with the Iraqi Islamic Resistance, targeting Eilat in southern Israel using drones, Reuters reported.

Early Monday, the Israeli army reported that fighter jets intercepted a suspicious target over the Red Sea heading towards Israel. The target was shot down outside Israeli territory, and no alarms or alerts were triggered.

Indian universities have deepened research ties with Israeli colleges and weapons companies since the start of the war on Gaza, despite several institutions in the US and UK being forced to rethink exchanges as the death toll spirals, Middle East Eye can reveal.

In recent months, Indian universities have increased partnerships in the fields of defence, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), with Israeli universities alleged to be complicit in the months-long conflict. Several are now either directly working with Israeli weapons companies or with Indian companies reported to have sent weaponry to Israel.

The partnerships, some publicly announced, have fuelled speculation that Israel is engineering closer ties with Indian universities - especially in the sciences - to build not only new hubs of defence and technology research for its armed forces but also as a means of exerting influence on Indian academia.

According to Channel 12 news, citing a recent Israeli army assessment, after nine months of conflict, Hamas's tunnel network remains largely functional across much of Gaza.

The Israeli military reported that its fighter jets targeted buildings utilized by Hezbollah in Maroun al-Ras. The army also struck additional infrastructure in Aita al-Shaab and Hula.

According to the military, these actions were in response to nine rockets launched from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee, which resulted in no injuries. Earlier, 10 rockets had been fired at the Kiryat Shmona area, followed by another five aimed at the Upper Galilee.

Columbia University has suspended three administrators, saying that they exchanged antisemitic text messages during a seminar on Jewish campus life in May.

In a letter released on Monday, Nemat Shafik, Columbia's president, said the administrators “disturbingly touched on ancient antisemitic tropes”.

"Whether intended as such or not, these sentiments are unacceptable and deeply upsetting, conveying a lack of seriousness about the concerns and the experiences of members of our Jewish community,” Shafik wrote.

The suspension came after conservative news outlet, The Washington Free Beacon, leaked photographs of the three deans’ text exchanges which included one dean using two vomit emojis in response to a reference to an article published in the Columbia student newspaper by Yonah Hain, the campus rabbi, about students’ response to 7 October.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa) has described the destruction in Gaza as "unfathomable".

"Houses, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure have been reduced to rubble," Unrwa reported, noting that approximately 190 of its facilities have been affected, and at least 520 displaced Palestinians sheltering in these buildings have died.

Louise Wateridge, Unrwa's senior communications officer, commented on the dire situation in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, stating that the remaining buildings are "hanging by a thread".

"Everywhere you look, there is destruction," she said in a video posted on X. "Huge craters line rubble-filled roads, leaving little hope for those who remain."
