The Israeli army said its warplanes carried out attacks on two buildings overnight, one in the Shati refugee camp and another on the Daraj neighbourhood of Gaza City.

The military claims the attacks targeted Hamas fighters who were "involved in planning many terror attacks against Israel, and some of them were involved in holding hostages and participating in the massacre on October 7".

At least 10 people were reportedly killed in the strike on the Shati camp, including the sister of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, while at least five people were killed in the Daraj neighbourhood.

Brazilian authorities deported a Palestinian man and his family after federal police were alerted by the US that a "Hamas operative" was travelling to the country.

Muslim Abuumar along with his pregnant wife, son and mother-in-law were detained upon entering the country at Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos airport and put on a Qatar Airways flight back to Doha, Reuters reports.

"The request came from the US Department of State," a senior federal police officer said. "It was proven before a judge that [Abuumar] was deeply involved with Hamas."

While the family said they were coming to visit Abuumar's brother who lives in Brazil, police claim the man intended to stay longer and serve as Hamas's spokesman there.

At least 21 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip overnight, including two deadly strikes on Unrwa shelters in Gaza City.

Additionally, a strike on the Asmaa school in the Shati refugee camp killed ten people, reportedly including the sister and other family members of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

The attacks come as Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant is currently in the US, meeting with top American officials to discuss the next steps of the war on Gaza and the escalations with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

A group of Lebanese senior officials, alongside more than a dozen foreign diplomats, visited the Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Monday, after a major British newspaper published an article alleging that Iranian weapons were being stored there.

Journalists also joined the tour of the airport, where Lebanese officials defended the airport's procedures and said that the reports of weapons storage were false.

"The airport adheres to international standards," said Ali Hamieh, the transport minister who led the visit.

On Sunday, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported that the Lebanese group Hezbollah was storing weapons at the Beirut airport, adding that there was an arrival of "unusually big boxes" that came from Iran.

The newspaper cited airport whistleblowers.

Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, responded to the statement by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggesting “a partial” truce to get some captives back:

  • “Netanyahu’s true stance is to avoid reaching an agreement, to stall for time, and to continue the war of genocide.”
  • “It’s become clear to the world that Netanyahu is the one who rejects and obstructs what was outlined in Biden’s speech and the recent UN Security Council resolution, not Hamas.”
  • “Netanyahu’s talk of concluding a partial agreement and continuing the aggression confirms he’s lying to the families of the prisoners and does not care about their lives.”
  • “The ball is now in the court of the war criminal Netanyahu, and the US administration must lift its cover of silence and bias and put pressure on Netanyahu and his government to stop the aggression and genocidal war.”
  • “We reiterate the positive stance of Hamas in dealing with the efforts of the mediators in Qatar and Egypt to reach an agreement that ensures a permanent cessation of the aggression, a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and a prisoner exchange deal.”

Over the past several days, a New York-based Palestinian organisation has faced a slew of attacks for protesting a scheduled rally in the Bronx for progressive politicians Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman and Bernie Sanders.

The political rally came at a sensitive time for Bowman, who faces a serious primary challenger in George Latimer, a more centrist Democrat who has received the backing of Aipac, the largest pro-Israel lobby in America.

Within Our Lifetime (WOL), which organised Saturday's counterrally, had several demands for Bowman, namely to rescind his endorsement of President Joe Biden, stop equating anti-Zionism with antisemitism, and to recognise the Palestinian right to resist and the right for liberation.

An image of a wounded Palestinian man strapped to an Israeli military vehicle has sparked outrage, with many accusing the military of using him as a "human shield".

Social media footage of the man, identified by medics at 24-year-old Mujahid Raed Abbadi, went viral on Saturday after the incident.

Abbadi can be seen strapped horizontally to the bonnet of a military jeep as it passes through a narrow alley in the West Bank city of Jenin.

On Sunday, the Israeli military said it was investigating the incident, which took place during a "counterterrorism operation" to arrest wanted suspects in the area of Wadi Burqin, near Jenin.

"In violation of orders and standard operating procedures, the suspect was taken by the forces while tied on top of a vehicle," it said, adding that he was later transferred to the Palestinian Red Crescent for treatment.

The “US-backed mass slaughter of Palestinian children must be addressed by the world community and the American people,” said the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – the largest Muslim civil rights organisation in the United States on Monday.

“Those responsible must be held accountable by institutions upholding international law and justice. This genocide must end and the Palestinian people must be treated as human beings,” CAIR said in a post on X.

The US State Department has rebuked comments made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on a clandestine effort to expand Israel’s civilian control of the occupied West Bank.

“We have made quite clear that settlements are counterproductive to peace, that the government of Israel’s settlement program is inconsistent with international law, and we will continue to make that clear,” US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said when asked about Smotrich’s comments during a press briefing.

“We will continue to make the case to [Israel] that actions like these don’t just harm the Palestinian people, but they ultimately are self-defeating. They ultimately hurt Israel’s interests and weaken Israel’s security,” Miller added.

In a bid to break out of Israel's growing international isolation, an Israeli parliamentary delegation visited Taiwan in late April, highlighting the strengthening relationship between the countries.

This trip marked the second such cross-party Israeli delegation within a year. Despite lacking official diplomatic ties, the two sides share similar historical circumstances. Israel was founded in 1948 and Taiwan was founded in 1949. Both serve as sanctuaries for their respective political projects.

Relations between the two sides have noticeably warmed since the Hamas-led 7 October attack on Israel that killed more than 1,100 people.

Following the assault, Taipei donated more than half-a-million dollars to Israel to help soldiers and their families and to fund municipal services.

Israel’s subsequent war on Gaza has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, resulting in accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The US State Department called the video of a wounded Palestinian man used as a human shield by Israeli troops on the front of a military jeep "shocking" and called for a swift investigation to hold accountable the people responsible.

"We saw that video, it was shocking. The practice was absolutely unacceptable. Humans should never be used as human shields. The IDF should swiftly investigate what happened, hold people accountable," Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a news briefing on Monday.

On Saturday, Israeli army forces tied a wounded Palestinian man to the hood of a military jeep during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

Brazil has deported a Palestinian man and his family at the request of the US State Department, Brazilian federal police sources told Reuters on Monday.

Muslim M. A. Abuumar and his 7-month pregnant wife, his son and mother-in-law, were detained entering the country at Sao Paulo's Guarulhos airport and put on a Qatar Airways flight back to Doha on Sunday, the sources said.

The US alleged that Abuumar is a member of Hamas.

Abuumar, aged 37, is executive director of the Asia Middle East Center, and his wife is Malaysian and his children Malaysian-born, the injunction said.

Judge Milenna da Cunha said in her ruling seen by Reuters that Brazilian federal police received an alert from the US embassy that "a Hamas operative, Muslim Abuumar" would be arriving in Brazil on Friday from Kuala Lumpur.

The judge's decision approving the deportation cited Abuumar's social media postings of him meeting in Doha with Ismail Haniyeh, a chief political leader of Hamas.
