An 18-year-old Palestinian from the Askar refugee camp near Nablus was fatally shot by Israeli forces during a military raid in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The teenager succumbed to critical injuries sustained earlier in the night as Israeli troops carried out an incursion into two neighbourhoods east of Nablus.

Witnesses reported that military vehicles stormed the areas, deploying live ammunition, sound grenades and teargas canisters, leaving residents traumatised and sparking outrage.

Critics have denounced the frequent Israeli raids in the West Bank, arguing that such operations exacerbate tensions and perpetuate violence in the region.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has condemned Israel for its role in the deaths of four Palestinian journalists in Gaza over the past week, urging the international community to hold it accountable for attacks on media professionals.

In a statement, the CPJ accused Israel of being responsible for two-thirds of all journalist deaths worldwide in 2024. “The international community has failed to fulfil its obligations to hold Israel accountable for its actions,” the organisation said.

Since the conflict between Israel and Gaza erupted on 7 October 2023, the CPJ has documented the deaths of at least 141 journalists.

The watchdog emphasised the urgent need for global pressure to end what it described as the systematic targeting of media workers in conflict zones.

The Israeli military announced that its 98th Division has been withdrawn from southern Lebanon and is being redirected to the Gaza Strip. In a statement on X, the army said the division had “completed” its mission in Lebanon after three months of clashes with Hezbollah and would now prepare for operations in Gaza.

The withdrawal comes as part of a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, under which Israeli forces will gradually leave southern Lebanon, transferring authority to the Lebanese army.

The agreement specifies that the Lebanese army is the only entity authorised to bear arms in the region.

Critics have accused Israel of shifting its military focus to Gaza to intensify its ongoing assault on the besieged enclave.

With over 45,000 already killed in Gaza, international observers warn that redeploying troops risks further deepening the humanitarian crisis and escalating violence.

Israel is reportedly preparing to launch an attack on Yemen, with full support from its security establishment, according to the Israel Broadcasting Authority.

Officials claim the move is in response to ongoing missile strikes by Yemen’s Houthi movement, which has targeted Israel in recent weeks.

The Houthis have openly taken responsibility for these attacks, saying that it's part of their efforts to counter Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

The announcement signals a potential escalation in the region, with critics accusing Israel of using disproportionate force to suppress opposition to its actions in Gaza.

Yemen’s Houthi movement claims to have struck a "military target" near Tel Aviv with a hypersonic ballistic missile, their military spokesman Yahya Saree announced in a televised address.

Saree declared the operation a success, though Israel reported intercepting the missile before it entered its airspace.

The Houthis have intensified their attacks in response to Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza. They have also targeted shipping lanes in the Red Sea, describing these operations as part of their efforts to pressure Israel into halting its war against Palestinians in Gaza.

Hamas has accused the United States of being directly complicit in what it describes as Israeli “massacres” targeting Palestinians in Gaza.

In a statement, the group said that Washington is the “main supporter” for Israel’s genocide in the besieged territory. The statement follows reports of dozens of Palestinians killed in recent Israeli strikes on schools being used as shelters for displaced civilians.

“We call on people around the world to organise and pressure the [Israeli] criminals and their supporters to end the bloodshed happening in front of everyone’s eyes,” the statement said.

An Israeli air strike on an Unrwa-run school sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killed at least 20 people, according to Palestinian health officials on Monday.

Women wept as men wrapped the bodies in shrouds before burying them.

“We had considered this school to be safe,” Umm Mohammed Ashour, who had sought refuge in the school, told Middle East Eye.

Ashour says she saw children’s bodies “without heads, without legs”.

The Israeli army says it struck Hamas fighters operating from a compound that previously served as a UN school, accusing the fighters of using the premise as a training camp.

The Irish government has hit back after Israel accused it of antisemitism and closed its embassy in Dublin.

On Sunday Gideon Saar, Israel's foreign minister, announced the closure of the embassy.

The move came after Ireland recognised a Palestinian state in May, and announced last week it would formally intervene at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to support South Africa's genocide case against Israel.

In his announcement, Saar claimed that the "actions, double standards, and antisemitic rhetoric of the Irish government against Israel are rooted in efforts to delegitimise and demonise the Jewish state."

Irish Taoiseach (prime minister) Simon Harris hit back, writing on social media platform X: "This is a deeply regrettable decision from the Netanyahu government.

"I utterly reject the assertion that Ireland is anti-Israel. Ireland is pro-peace, pro-human rights and pro-international law."
