A French warship, known as the FREMM Languedoc, has destroyed a drone that targeted the Norwegian oil tanker Strinda by Yemen's Houthis, the French defence ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The ministry said the attack had taken place in the evening of 11 December, and had caused a fire on board the tanker, which was sailing under the Norwegian flag.

A spokesperson for Yemen's Houthi administration, Yahya Saree, confirmed that it was behind the attack on a Norway-flagged chemical tanker off the Yemeni coast on its way to Israel.

"In support of the oppressed Palestinian people, currently reeling under the destruction, killing and siege of the Gaza Strip, and to heed the calls of our free Yemeni people, the Yemeni Naval Forces carried out an outstanding military operation against MV Strinda," Saree said.

The Israeli army believes it would not be "morally sound" to investigate incidents of friendly fire that occured on 7 October, the Israeli media outlet Yedioth Ahronot reported on Tuesday.

The army believes that it likely killed its own people following Hamas's surprise attack, but has decided that "beyond the operational investigations of the events", further investigations of these would be ruled out.

This is due to both the "immense and complex quantity of them that took place in the kibbutzim and southern Israeli communities [and] due to the challenging situations the soldiers were in at the time", according to the report.

It remains unclear how many Israelis were killed by its own army. As many as 1,200 people died on 7 October.

According to maritime traffic website Vessel Finder, shipping traffic at the Israeli Red Sea port of Eilat has all but stopped.

No vessels have arrived at the port in 24 hours and no ships are expected to arrive for the next 30 days, according to the tracking website.

The cost of insurance premiums for Israeli shipping have soared following the 7 October assault by Hamas and Israel's war on Gaza. Since then, the Yemeni Houthi group have targeted ships heading towards Israel through the Red Sea.

The spokesperson for Yemen's Houthi administration, Yahya Saree, said on Tuesday that "to heed the calls of our free Yemeni people, the Yemeni Naval Forces carried out an outstanding military operation against the MV Strinda".

The measures against Israeli ships would continue "in support of the oppressed Palestinian people, currently reeling under the destruction, killing and siege of the Gaza Strip", Saree added.

Puma is terminating its sponsorship of Israel's national football team, according to an internal note seen by the Financial Times.

Palestinian activists are celebrating the decision as a victory for the boycott campaign they have been running since the deal was signed in 2018.

Puma, however, said the deal was set to expire in 2024 and that it would not renew its contract with the Israel Football Association (IFA).

Puma's stores in some western cities have been targeted with demonstrations in recent weeks following Israel's two-month assault on Gaza, which has killed more than 18,000 Palestinians.
