Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, on Saturday said the country will never recognise Israel, a "regime that has committed genocide and killed children", news agency Reuters reported.

"Iran will never recognise an occupied regime that has committed genocide and killed children," Araqchi told Iranian state television.

Araqchi said the suggestion that Iran could normalise relations with Israel was "wishful thinking."

Late last month, Trump said, "Who knows, maybe even Iran can get in there," referring to the Abraham Accords, an agreement signed during Trump's first term under which Israel normalised diplomatic relations with four Muslim-majority nations.

Iran on Saturday said that it has no trust in Israel respecting the ceasefire in Gaza, news agency AFP reported.

Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, said the suggestion that Iran could normalise relations with Israel was "wishful thinking."

The US military on Saturday said following the announcement of the ceasefire, Israel had completed the first phase of withdrawal from Gaza.

However, despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces have killed at least 17 Palestinians and wounded 71 others in the past 24 hours, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Israeli forces also shelled areas across the Gaza Strip.

The United Nations has said that 170,000 metric tons of humanitarian aid have already been positioned in neighbouring countries such as Jordan and Egypt and that officials were awaiting permission from Israeli forces to restart their work.

More than 500,000 people have returned to Gaza City after a ceasefire was declared in the enclave, the civil defence agency said on Saturday.

Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the civil defence, said there had been a mass movement following the apparent end of Israel's assault on Friday.

"More than half a million people have returned to Gaza [City] since yesterday," he said, according to AFP.

As the dust settles amid hopes that the current round of conflict is over, Palestinians have started taking stock of two years of war.

More than 67,000 people have been killed by Israel's bombardment, which has also left most of Gaza in ruins.

The civil defence said on Saturday that 9,500 people were still missing under the rubble across Gaza.

Its teams have already begun rescue operations, recovering the bodies of some 155 people so far.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Saturday condemned an overnight Israeli strike on civilian sites, which killed at least one person.

"Once again, southern Lebanon has been the target of a heinous Israeli aggression against civilian installations, without justification or pretext," Aoun said.

"The seriousness of this latest attack lies in the fact that it comes after the ceasefire agreement in Gaza," he added, questioning whether Israel now sought to expand its attacks on Lebanon.

The health ministry said one person was killed and seven wounded in the strike on the Al-Msayleh area in southern Lebanon, which Israel said targeted Hezbollah infrastructure.

Hundreds of thousands of people marched in central London on Saturday in the wake of the Gaza ceasefire to demand "lasting peace" in the territory.

According to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), which has coordinated national marches against Israel's genocide in Gaza since its launch in October 2023, some 500,000 people attended.

PSC director Ben Jamal warned that the US President Donald Trump's plan is "not a plan for enduring peace".

He added that it does "nothing about the root causes of violence", and pledged that the protesting will continue "until the Palestinian people are finally free".

This marked the 32nd national demonstration since Israel's genocide began, according to PSC.

Last weekend, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced a fresh raft of measures to crack down on protests which she said were causing "considerable fear" for the Jewish community. The UK prime minister later announced further measures including potential powers to take action against specific chants at pro-Palestine protests.
