UK media regulator Ofcom said on Friday that a BBC documentary about children’s lives in Gaza had committed a “serious breach” of broadcasting rules by not revealing that the 13-year-old narrator was the son of an official in the agriculture ministry of the Strip’s government.

It said the failure to disclose that Abdullah al-Yazouri’s father was a deputy agriculture minister was “materially misleading”.

“It meant that the audience did not have critical information which may have been highly relevant to their assessment of the narrator and the information he provided,” Ofcom said in a statement.

Ofcom regulator said it received 20 complaints about the documentary, entitled Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, which was removed by the BBC from its website after five days of its broadcast in February.

“As this represents a serious breach of our rules, we are directing the BBC to broadcast a statement of our findings against it,” Ofcom said.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said on Friday that an average of 560 tonnes of food were brought into Gaza everyday since the ceasefire began, but more than these amounts is needed to feed the Palestinians.

“We’re still below what we need, but we’re getting there… The ceasefire has opened a narrow window of opportunity, and WFP is moving very quickly and swiftly to scale up food assistance,” WFP spokesperson Abeer Etefa told reporters in Geneva.

Earlier today, the UN agency said it has a three-month food supply to feed the Strip.

The United Nations agency for Palestine refugees, Unrwa, has highlighted the critical condition of Gaza’s agricultural sector following recent conflicts.

According to the agency, almost all agricultural lands in Gaza are either destroyed or inaccessible. Families who depended on farming for their livelihoods now have no income due to the destruction or restricted access to their lands.

The agency emphasised that many people cannot afford to buy food from the markets, making it essential for humanitarian aid to continue flowing into Gaza until the agricultural sector can recover and sustain the population once again.

“A kilo of tomatoes that once cost 60¢, now costs $15 – if found at all,” the agency said. “Families who once lived from their land now have no income.”

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Friday that the inaccuracy of intelligence information about the locations of Israeli captives inside Gaza has led to the deaths of some of them in Israeli attacks carried out in the Strip.

Citing an Israeli source, the news outlet explained that over the past two years, the Israeli army has carried out several special operations inside Gaza to retrieve the captives.

In one operation, the elite Sayeret Matkal unit infiltrated a house in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, before Hamas fighters responded swiftly to the attack, resulting in serious injuries in the Israeli unit and the death of one captive, whose body was recovered by Hamas.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Thursday that his country’s recognition of the state of Palestine is closer, but it is difficult to say when as there must be "no weapons, no Hamas" in the Strip.

He also pointed out to a planned trip by the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas to Italy in November.

A US lawmaker said on Thursday he is returning money to the pro-Israel lobbying group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac), ahead of a district race with a progressive senator.

Seth Moulton said in a post on X that he would return $35,000 in donations he had received from Aipac ahead of his Democratic primary challenge to Ed Markey, a critic of Israel.

While the former Marine said he believed in Israel's right to exist, he said he did not agree with Aipac's support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Moulton did not say whether he would be happy to receive donations if Aipac decides to support another Israeli leader in the future.

The son of prominent Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti is concerned that his father is a target of violence in an Israeli prison because of his political influence, Al Jazeera reported on Thursday.

“We do fear for my father’s life," Arab Barghouti said in an interview with the news organisation. "It’s not a crazy idea to say that the Israeli government is capable of actually killing and murdering prisoners inside prisons.”

“They are targeting him,” Arab said. “They are trying to at least cause him a disability, not to be functional for playing a political role, because he is important for the Palestinian people and a unifying figure.”

Arab said that his father was beaten for the fourth time during Israel's war on Gaza by prison guards last month.

According to polls, Barghouti is the most popular Palestinian political figure.
