Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that he "condemns the actions of Israel taken in violation of the UN Charter" and expressed condolences for those killed, in a call on Friday, according to a Kremlin statement.
In a separate call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, Putin told him that questions around Iran's nuclear programme could only be solved through diplomacy, and "stressed the importance of a return to the process of talks and resolution... strictly through political and diplomatic means".
The Russian foreign ministry also released a statement, saying: "Unprovoked military strikes against a sovereign member state of the United Nations, against its citizens, peaceful cities, and critical nuclear energy infrastructure facilities, are totally unacceptable".
"It is evident that West Jerusalem has made a deliberate decision to further escalate the situation and raise stakes. The full responsibility for the consequences of these provocative acts lies with the Israeli leadership."
It urged the international community to "not ignore such acts" which undermine peace and security globally.
Following a wave of Israeli attacks on Iran, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will deliver televised remarks to the nation on Friday, Reuters reported.
His office said in a statement that the message will be broadcast shortly.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he has "grave concerns" over Iran's nuclear programme and believes Israel has the right to self-defence, Reuters reported on Friday.
Starmer's spokesperson said in a statement, "The prime minister was clear that Israel has a right to self-defence and set out the UK's grave concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme.
"He reiterated (to Netanyahu) the need for de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution, in the interests of stability in the region."
Israel decided to launch large-scale attacks on Iran in the early hours of Friday without warning.
The US State Department informed allies in the Middle East of Israel's planned air strikes on Iran on Thursday, according to three sources familiar with the matter, Reuters reported on Friday.
Iranian media have said that the country's air defences shot down an Israeli drone in the vicinity of the country's Fordow nuclear facility, Reuters reported on Friday.
US President Donald Trump told Reuters during an interview on Friday that it was unclear if Iran still has a nuclear programme, following air strikes by Israel on the Islamic Republic.
Trump told the news organisation the US still planned to have nuclear talks on Sunday with Iran, but was not sure if they would still take place. He said Iran still had time to make a deal.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff was scheduled to meet an Iranian delegation in Oman on Sunday, but the Israeli attacks have raised doubts about whether the session will still take place.
Iran called Israel's wave of air strikes on Friday a declaration of war, while US President Donald Trump warned Tehran of "even more brutal" attacks if it does not make a deal on its nuclear programme, AFP reported.
Israel said its air strikes had killed several top Iranian generals, including most of the senior leadership of the Revolutionary Guard air force, while hitting about 100 targets, including nuclear facilities.
Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned Israel it faced a "bitter and painful" fate over the attacks, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the attack as a "declaration of war" and President Masoud Pezeshkian said, "Iran will make the enemy regret its foolish act".
The Israeli military said Iran launched around 100 drones in response, with air defences intercepting them outside Israeli territory, while neighbouring Jordan said it targeted drones and missiles that violated its airspace.
The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog said on Friday that radiation levels outside Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment site following Israeli air strikes "remained unchanged", reported AFP.
"The type of radioactive contamination present inside the facility, mainly alpha particles, can be managed with appropriate protective measures," International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi wrote on X.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has condemned Israel’s “cowardly” overnight attack on his country, in a phone call with his Kuwaiti counterpart, according to multiple media sources.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, with full determination, will take action to defend its sovereignty, people and national security, and will respond decisively to the Zionist regime’s illegal and cowardly aggression,” Araghchi told Kuwait’s Abdullah Ali al-Yahya, according to a statement from the Iranian foreign ministry.
Mohammad Pakpour, the newly appointed commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned that "the gates of hell" will open on Israel in "retribution for the blood of our fallen commanders, scientists and citizens," according to state news agency IRNA.
Pakpour was named the successor to Hossein Salami, who was killed in today's attacks.
Israel says it is deploying reservists across "all combat arenas" nationwide following its deadly strikes on Iran.

The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) has reported that contamination has been detected inside the Natanz nuclear site, which was twice targeted by a barrage of Israeli strikes on Friday.
The AEOI did not clarify whether the leakage was chemical or radioactive, but said that it was only detected inside the complex and that there was no cause for concern outside the site.
“As far as we know, the damage is limited to surface-level areas,” Mohammad Islami, the AEOI head, said, adding that no casualties were reported.
Turkey's top ministers have held a closed-door meeting on Friday in Ankara to discuss the "possible repercussions" of Israel's attacks on Iran, AFP is reporting, citing a foreign ministry source.
According to the source, foreign and defence ministers, the chief of staff and the intelligence chief attended the meeting.
Following the attacks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday warned that Israel was seeking to drag the world into "disaster" and urged the international community to stop what he called Israel's "banditry".
The UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in Iran.

Iran's foreign ministry summoned the Swiss ambassador, which represents US interests in Tehran, state media is reporting.
The official news agency IRNA reported that during the meeting, Iran "conveyed its deep outrage and strong protest over this act of aggression by Israel and the support extended to it by the United States".
