Live: Iran holds funeral for top military, nuclear figures killed in Israeli strikes
Live Updates
In a briefing late Monday night in Doha, the Qatari foreign and defence ministries confirmed that Iran fired 19 missiles on the US al-Udeid air base, with only one actually making landfall but causing no casualties.
Officials affirmed that Qatar would still remain in a mediating role between all parties involved in the current standoff as well as negotations between Israel and Hamas.
US President Donald Trump, in three posts to his TruthSocial account on Monday, appeared to wind down the military confrontation with Iran.
He thanked the Iranians for the early warning about air strikes on the US bases in Qatar and Iraq, so that they could be evacuated, and he thanked the emir of Qatar for the assistance with the al-Udeid air base in particular - the largest in the region.
"Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered. There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and [one] was 'set free,' because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction," Trump wrote.
"I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done. Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their 'system,' and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE," he said.
"I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured. Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same."
Trump went on to "thank the Highly Respected Emir of Qatar for all that he has done in seeking Peace for the Region," and added that "very importantly, there have also been no Qataris killed or wounded."
In a third post, he only said: "CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!"
A renewed debate around the portrayal of Muslim women, particularly in Iran, has gained traction on social media in recent days, with users critiquing and ridiculing long-standing western narratives that frame women in the region as in need of liberation.
Many of the tweets raising the issue of women's rights in Iran build on the widespread protests that took place in Iran in 2022 after the killing of Mahsa Amini. Amini died after being taken into custody for wearing her hijab "inappropriately" in September 2022, sparking off widespread demonstrations across Iran against the country's treatment of women and minorities, as well as against the Islamic Republic as a whole.
But the latest debate was ignited after the Israeli military launched an offensive against the Islamic Republic more than a week ago, which initially targeted Iran's nuclear infrastructure and air defence systems, as well as several other targets across the country including housing complexes.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson Iman Tajik has warned the Trump administration in televised remarks that Iran will continue to respond with its own attacks should the US strike again.
"The Islamic Revolutionary Guard, in a heroic mission, has struck the al-Udeid base in Qatar. This base is the largest terrorist base belonging to the United States in the region," he said.
"This is a message for the White House: The Islamic Republic of Iran will not under any circumstances forget its nation's security and led threats against it go unanswered."
Saudi Arabia has condemned Iran's attack on the US air base in Qatar, in a statement from the foreign ministry on X.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its condemnation and denunciation, in the strongest terms possible, the aggression launched by Iran against the brotherly State of Qatar, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighborliness, and an entirely unacceptable act that cannot be justified under any circumstances."
The kingdom also said it "places all its capabilities at Qatar's disposal in support of any measures it may take."
US President Donald Trump insisted on his TruthSocial account on Monday that the three nuclear sites targeted by the US in Iran "were totally destroyed, and everyone knows it."
"Only the Fake News would say anything different in order to try and demean, as much as possible — And even they say they were 'pretty well destroyed!'"
Trump went on to call a number of US media personalities "losers" for their reporting, which was based on remarks from officials such as the US vice president himself, that perhaps Iran still maintained some nuclear capability after the US strikes.
Kuwait Airways on Monday announced it is suspending all departures from Kuwait's international airport for the time being, after Iran targeted US military bases in Qatar and Iraq.
Kuwait is host to some 10,000 US troops at its US military base.
Like Qatar and Iraq, Kuwait enjoys close diplomatic relations with Iran.
The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed al-Ansari, said on X on Monday that Qatar "strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard."
"We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter. We affirm that Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression, in line with international law," he warned.
No one was hurt and the base was evacuated ahead of time, Ansari confirmed.
"We reassure that Qatar’s air defenses successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles... We also emphasize that the continuation of such escalatory military actions will undermine security and stability in the region, dragging it into situations that could have catastrophic consequences for international peace and security."
Ansari called for "the immediate cessation of all military actions and for a serious return to the negotiating table and dialogue," and said Qatar was one of the first to warn of "Israeli escalation in the region."
The Arabic-language spokesperson for the Israeli military, Avichay Adraee, said on X on Monday that Israel has "completed a wave of raids in western Iran".
He said 15 fighter jets targeted "underground military infrastructure, a missile storage site, and a drone storage site belonging to the Iranian military forces".
Iran's state broadcaster IRIB has confirmed “a mighty and successful response by the armed forces of Iran to America’s aggression” on the al-Udeid air base in Qatar.
Aljazeera's correspondent in Doha is reporting that things seem to remain normal and people are going about their lives, including heading to mosques for evening prayers as missiles flew overhead.
Doha residents have shared videos on social media of missiles in the sky as Iran targets the largest US military base in the Middle East, Iranian media has confirmed.
The al-Arabiya broadcaster has also confirmed that Iranian attacks were aimed at the US base in Iraq, but that the Americans had taken precautions and evacuated the base.
Iran's mission to the United Nations in New York said on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "an internationally wanted war criminal, has hijacked US foreign policy, dragging the United States into yet another costly war."
"America has, once more, recklessly chosen to sacrifice its own security merely to safeguard Netanyahu," the mission said in a post on X.
"The Israeli regime and the United States destroyed diplomacy. The so-called offer of diplomacy was nothing more than a deceitful ploy," the statement continued.
It follows a statement from a White House spokesperson that US President Donald Trump is open to negotiations with Iran again.
"Undoubtedly, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the Israeli regime, and the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] General Director will bear full responsibility for the death of innocent civilians in Iran, especially women and children, and for the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure," Iran's UN mission said.
Qatari airspace has been shut down temporarily to ensure the safety of residents and visitors, a statement by the Qatari foreign ministry said on X.
This comes as Iran threatens to retaliate against the US - likely via its regional assets - after the US struck three of its nuclear facilities in the early hours of Sunday.

Foreign oil firms including giants BP and Total evacuated some foreign staff from southern Iraq amid regional tensions, the state-owned Basra Oil Company said on Monday.
"Firms operating in the fields of the Basra Oil Company have temporarily evacuated some of their foreign personnel" including British BP, French Total and Italian firm ENI, the company said in a statement, adding that operations were not affected.
The evacuations are due to the "security situation" in the region, an official from the company told AFP.
