Iran's Revolutionary Guards has released a second statement on the attack against Israel and said any threat from the United States and Israel will be met with a reciprocal response, Iranian state TV reported.

"Any threat by the United States and the Zionist regime originating from any country will result in a proportional and reciprocal response from Iran towards the origin of the threat," the Guards said in a statement.

Former US President Donald Trump has waded into the conflict and claimed that Iran's attack on Israel wouldn't have been possible if he were still in the White House.

"ISRAEL IS UNDER ATTACK! This should never have been allowed to happen – This would NEVER have happened if I were President!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

"AMERICA SUPPORTS ISRAEL!"

Iran's has defended its decision to attack Israel and said the United States "must stay away" from the conflict, the Islamic Republic's mission to the United Nations has said. 

In a post on X, the mission warned Tehran's response would become more severe if Israel retaliates. 

"Iran's military action was in response to the Zionist regime's aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus," it said.

"The matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran's response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the US MUST STAY AWAY!"

US President Joe Biden has said he met his national security team to discuss Iran's retaliatory attack against Israel following last week's strike on its consulate in Damascus. 

"Our commitment to Israel's security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad," he said in a post on Twitter. 

Biden cut his weekend trip to Delaware short to return to Washington for the meeting. 

Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars, quoting a military source, reports that Iran is watching Jordan for any moves in support of Israel during Tehran’s retaliatory attacks, warning the country may become the "next target."

"A military-informed source said [we] are closely monitoring Jordan’s movements during the punitive attacks… and if they participate in any possible action [to back Israel], they will be the next target," Fars stated.

Jordanian jets have shot down dozens of Iranian drones, two regional security sources have told Reuters.

The drones were intercepted while flying across northern and central Jordan, they said. 

Sirens blared across Israel as the drones reached Israeli territory. Footage aired by Al Jazeera showed air defence interceptions in the skies above Tel Aviv.

Sirens were reported across the south as well as in Jerusalem, where a Middle East Eye reported has said explosions could be heard, likely from interceptions by Israel's air defence systems. 

The US has shot down an Iranian drone headed toward Israel, according to US officials speaking to Reuters news agency. 

Israel's army radio reported that more than 100 drones were intercepted outside Israeli territory with assistance from US and UK. 

Middle East Eye could not independently verify the reports. 

Earlier, a US official told ABC News that the US expected that Iran had launched between 400-500 drones and missiles at Israel. The drones are expected to reach Israeli airspace at around 2am, local time. 

Iran's retaliation to Israel's strike on its consulate in Damascus "can be deemed concluded" Iran's permanent mission to the UN said in a post to X an hour before the drones Iran launched are set to arrive in Israeli airspace. 

The office warned, however, that "should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe".

Iranian cruise missiles launched towards Israel have been spotted over Iraq, according to local footage circulating social media, several of which have been verified. 

Flight radar systems are showing airspace clear of most planes above Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Israel as region prepares for Iranian attack on Israel.

Iranian Defence Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani warned that Tehran will firmly respond to any country that "opens its airspace or territory for attacks on Iran by Israel", Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Sunday.

Earlier, two regional security sources said Jordan's air defences were ready to intercept and shoot down any Iranian drones or aircraft that violate its airspace.

They said the army was also in a state of high alert and radar systems were monitoring any drone activity coming from the direction of Iraq and Syria.

Iran's attack on Israel is expected to consist of 400-500 drones and missiles, a senior US official told ABC News. 

The drones are expected to arrive above Israel around 2am, local time, while missiles launched are set to strike earlier, according to reports. 

The British security company Ambrey reported that the Houthis in Yemen have launched missiles at Israel.

Middle East Eye could not independently confirm the report.
