Israeli soldiers launched a fresh raid on the town of Beita on Friday, south of Nablus, in the occupied West Bank, according to Arabic media reports.

The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, said that Israeli troops stormed the town, firing live ammunition and tear gas bombs.

Israeli troops are attacking Palestinians in the town who are resisting the raid, Wafa added.

An 18-year-old Palestinian, Mohammed Ahmed Abu Haneen, succumbed to injuries on Friday morning sustained during an Israeli military raid on the Askar al-Jadeed refugee camp, east of Nablus, according to Wafa news agency.

Wafa reported that Israeli troops raided the camp on Thursday evening, sparking confrontations with residents.

During the assault, Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition, shooting Abu Haneen in the back. He was critically wounded and later succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

The US State Department has appointed has appointed the current ambassador to Yemen and career foreign service officer, Steven Fagin, as the civilian lead for a new centre it has established to implement the ceasefire deal in Gaza, the department said in a statement.

The announcement came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Civil-Military Coordination Centre in southern Israel, and pledged that more US diplomats would be joining the roughly 200 US military personnel posted there.

"Ambassador Steven Fagin will serve as the civilian lead of the Civil-Military Coordination Centre, which is supporting the implementation of the President’s 20 Point Peace Plan for Gaza," the department said.

The centre was opened this week by the US Central Command, with Patrick Frank, commander of US Army Central, appointed as its military lead.

Fagin has served as US ambassador to Yemen since 2022, although he has performed the role from outside the country, as Washington does not recognise the Houthi government in Sanaa.

Spain's top criminal court said it had opened an investigation into alleged complicity in crimes against humanity or genocide into executives at the steelmaker Sidenor for trading with an Israeli arms company.

Spain said it had stopped exchanging weapons with Israel after the war on Gaza started in October 2023.

The embargo formally became law this month as part of measures aiming to stop what Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called a genocide in Gaza.

Sidenor's chairman Jose Antonio Jainaga Gomez and two other executives are being investigated for alleged smuggling and complicity in crimes against humanity or genocide for selling steel to Israel Military Industries, the Audiencia Nacional court said.

The Spanish firm sold the metal without requesting the government's permission or registering the transaction, and knew the material "was going to be used for the manufacturing of weapons", the court said in a statement.

It said the company itself was not being investigated because of whistleblower employees who contributed to the complaint and helped "prevent the continuation of the allegedly criminal activity".

The investigating judge has summoned the three suspects to testify on 12 November in the case, initiated after a complaint by a pro-Palestinian association.

Sidenor did not respond to an AFP request for comment.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) can have no future in the running of Gaza.

Speaking to reporters at the headquarters of the US Civil-Military Coordination Center, which is overseeing the Gaza ceasefire, Rubio repeated the widely discredited Israeli claims that the organisation is a "subsidiary of Hamas".

“Unrwa is not going to play any role in [providing aid]," he said.

His comments come just days after the International Court of Justice ruled that the Israeli claim that Unrwa was "substantially" comprised of Hamas supporters was without foundation.

In its advisory opinion, the UN's top court on Wednesday found that Unrwa is impartial and indispensable for the provision of relief to Palestinians, as mandated by the UN General Assembly.

The wife of Marwan Barghouti has appealed to US President Donald Trump to secure her husband's release from prison in Israel.

The Palestinian politician is serving multiple life sentences for his role in the Second Intifada but is highly popular among Palestinians and is touted as a future leader.

"Mr President, a genuine partner awaits you - one who can help fulfil the dream we share of just and lasting peace in the region. For the sake of freedom for the Palestinian people and peace for all future generations, help release Marwan Barghouti," lawyer Fadwa Barghouti said in a statement.

As western leaders jostle and preoccupy themselves with US President Donald Trump’s so-called "peace plan", the media buzz has started looking to "what’s next", rather than reflecting on the 734 days of genocide Palestinians have endured.

Trump’s plan is filled with red flags about eroding Palestinian agency, about neocolonial British-American control over Gaza, and about failing to stop Israel’s continued violations of the ceasefire.

These concerns are all vitally important, but equally important is accountability for the perpetrators of the genocide, from the most senior generals to the most junior foot soldier.

That is why the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) has applied for a court summons to prosecute a dual national British-Israeli soldier for allegedly enlisting in the Israel army, in violation of Section 4 of the Foreign Enlistment Act 1870.

The individual is believed to have served in an Israeli army unit on the Lebanese border before deployment to the Occupied West Bank.

Two people were killed and two others wounded after an Israeli drone struck a car in the southern Lebanese town of Toul, the Lebanese Ministry of Health has confirmed.

On Thursday, four people were killed in Israeli air strikes in eastern and southern Lebanon. The Israeli army claimed it was attacking Hezbollah positions.

Israel has continued to breach its November 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah almost daily since the agreement was announced.

US Vice President JD Vance allegedly delivered a “firm message” from President Donald Trump to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting in Jerusalem on Wednesday, Politico reported, citing sources with knowledge of the conversation.

One source said senior US officials viewed Sunday’s Israeli attacks - which killed more than 40 Palestinian civilians - as evidence that Israel was acting “out of control”.

A White House official, also speaking anonymously, told Politico that recent public statements “reflect how the president feels” about Israeli actions following the ceasefire.

As previously reported, US officials - including Trump himself - have also criticised the Israeli parliament’s new West Bank annexation bill, which analysts say marks a rare and significant departure from Washington’s usual alignment with Israeli policy.

The Future of the Occupation of the Palestinian Territories after Gaza is an open-access collection that reads like a field guide for citizens, journalists, policy staffers, students and anyone who refuses to look away.

It begins from an unflinching fact: that ceasefires and the summit statements did not end the occupation, they reshaped it.

The opening chapter states this without rhetorical gymnastics and asks a harder question that too many conversations still dodge.

What, exactly, will the occupation look like in five or 10 years if current forces keep pulling in the same direction, and what would it take to bend the curve?

The book’s core contribution is methodological rather than ideological. Instead of promising certainty, it uses scenario planning to map several plausible futures.

Turkey has accused Israel of violating the Gaza ceasefire and urged the United States and other countries to take stronger measures, including sanctions or halting arms sales.

Speaking to reporters on his return flight from Oman, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Hamas has been complying with the agreement.

“Gaza is a test for the Islamic world. God willing, we will pass this test with flying colours and take our place alongside our brothers and sisters in the strongest possible way,” he said, adding that Turkiye is ready to support the planned Gaza task force in any way needed.

Recent reports indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out Turkish personnel on the ground in Gaza. Erdogan has frequently condemned Israel since the war began, further straining bilateral relations.

Palestinian farmers were assaulted by Israeli settlers on Friday morning while harvesting olives in Beit Iksa, northwest of Jerusalem, eyewitnesses told Wafa.

A group from the Ramot settlement, built on Palestinian land, reportedly threw stones, hurled verbal abuse and tried to expel farmers from their fields under the protection of Israeli forces in the Wadi al-Madina area.

Witnesses said the farmers resisted the attack and continued their work, noting that such incidents recur each year during the olive harvest, reflecting ongoing attempts to seize more land.

Beit Iksa has long faced repeated settler assaults, particularly during harvest season. Access to farmland is heavily restricted by the occupation, requiring special permits and designated days, part of a wider strategy to displace residents and control agricultural land near Ramot settlement and the apartheid wall.

Upstairs in my father’s house in Gaza’s Tel al-Sultan neighbourhood, an Israeli-designated “safe zone” west of Rafah city, I remember seeing my son, Abdullah, just a few months before his 13th birthday.

On that day in late 2023, not long after the war erupted, he was in the kitchen making a cup of tea. In his hand was a packet of salted biscuits he had just bought from a local shop.

He said to me: “Dad, do you want to share it?” I replied: “Thanks, my love. I prefer sweet biscuits in the morning.”

“But you’ll like these,” he said. “Try one.”

I took a piece from him. “You’re right.” He told me to let him know when I wanted more, and he’d get me some from the shop.

Separately, two children were wounded in the Al-Nasr neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, after an unexploded Israeli munition detonated.

Earlier this morning, Israeli artillery fired multiple shells east of Deir al Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
