Israeli forces arrested three Palestinians after settlers deliberately rammed their vehicle and damaged it south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, local media reported.

Activist Osama Makhamereh, according to the Wafa news agency, said that Israeli settlers from the newly established illegal outpost of Shimon intentionally struck a vehicle at the village entrance.

Following the ramming, Israeli forces raided the area and detained three young men.

The arrests are among many carried out since Sunday morning, including the detention of children.

Israel is facing a “mental health tsunami”, with two million people in need of support as addiction rates soar and families and communities fall apart, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.

In an extensive report published on Friday, the news outlet said mental health professionals have raised the alarm over a sharp increase in people requiring support since 7 October 2023.

Meanwhile, there is a severe shortage of therapists and support services, which experts warn could have catastrophic consequences.

Last week, a coalition of eight major mental health organisations issued an urgent warning to the government, describing the country’s situation as an “outbreak of mental illness unprecedented in its depth and scope”.

The groups called the crisis “catastrophic” and demanded immediate government intervention.

Good morning Middle East Eye readers,

On the 44th day since the truce deal came into effect, Israel continues to violate the terms of the ceasefire agreement. From demolitions of residential buildings to the bombardment of various areas across the Gaza Strip, the army has committed nearly 500 violations since October.

In a statement released by Gaza's government media office in the besieged enclave, officials said 497 documented violations have been recorded during the truce period, with at least 27 of them committed on Saturday.

These ongoing Israeli violations have resulted in the killing of 342 Palestinians - the majority of them are children, women and the elderly - and have wounded over 875 others. Meanwhile, 35 Palestinians have been arbitrarily arrested during incursions across the blockaded territory.

Here are the latest updates:

  • Gaza's government media office reported that Israeli authorities continue to bar the entry of heavy machinery needed for search and recovery operations.

  • The World Food Programme indicated that much of Gaza's population is unable to meet their basic needs despite the ceasefire. It confirmed the entry of some goods, such as vegetables and fruits, but said prices are severely inflated as many Palestinians struggle financially.

  • Israeli security cabinet member Zeev Elkin said he "doubts the ability of any international force to disarm Hamas", as quoted by the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation. His remarks come amid rising Israeli scepticism over the formation of international forces to take over the besieged territory.

  • On the other hand, Palestinians in the West Bank continue to face violent military incursions and settler attacks, with reports sighted in Tubas, Hebron, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Nablus.

  • Amid Israeli attacks in the occupied territory, Israeli authorities also confiscated 1,042 dunams (104 hectares) of land in the Jordan Valley to construct a 22km-long settlement road.

The Israeli army on Saturday carried out a large-scale demolition operation inside the yellow line southeast of Khan Younis city, Al Jazeera reported.

Earlier in the day, Israeli forces carried out 10 air strikes on Khan Younis inside the yellow line.

The yellow line in Gaza demarcates the area in which Israeli troops can remain according to the ceasefire plan. It is an operational boundary imposed by the Israeli military, which has, since the US brokered ceasefire came into effect last month, turned into a restricted-movement zone.

Al Jazeera reported that the Israeli military also blew up buildings east of Gaza City.

Demonstrators gathered in the Swedish capital on Saturday to protest Israeli attacks on Gaza, despite the ceasefire agreement in place, Anadolu news agency reported.

Protestors gathered in Odenplan Square in central Stockholm said that Israel is violating the ceasefire agreement and continues to block humanitarian aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave.

Dror Feiler, a Jewish activist attending the rally, said: “Palestinians are being killed every day in Gaza, while ethnic cleansing continues in the occupied West Bank.”

“Our governments continue to buy and sell weapons. They continue to support Israel politically and diplomatically ... that’s unacceptable,” Feiler added.

A senior member of the Hamas political bureau, Ezzat al-Risheq, on Saturday said that media reports saying the Palestinian group announced the Gaza ceasefire “is over” are false.

“There is no truth to what the Israeli sources published regarding Hamas informing [Steve] Witkoff that the agreement has ended. We have called on the mediators and the US administration to intervene and compel Israel to implement the agreement,” Risheq told Quds News Network.

The comments after Saudi state-owned Al Arabiya quoted unnamed sources saying Hamas said “the agreement is over” and “Gaza will not become another Lebanon”.

“Israel is fabricating pretexts to evade the agreement and return to the war of annihilation, while it is the one violating the agreement daily and systematically,” he said.

The Palestinian health ministry reported that 318 people have been killed in Israeli aggression since the truce came into effect last month.
