The US-supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) says it paused all aid distribution on Saturday, citing what it described as “direct threats” from Hamas that endangered staff and civilians.

“These threats made it impossible to proceed today without putting innocent lives at risk,” the organisation said in a statement posted online. “GHF will not be deterred. We remain committed to safe, secure and independent aid delivery. We are actively adapting our operations to overcome these threats and fully intend to resume distributions without delay.”

A senior Hamas official, speaking to Reuters, denied any knowledge of the alleged threats aimed at the US-funded initiative.

The GHF project has faced backlash from UN agencies and established humanitarian organisations, who argue they already have the capacity to deliver aid effectively to the 2.3 million Palestinians trapped in Gaza under siege.

Eid al-Adha, a time meant for unity and celebration, has become a day of despair for children in Gaza, according to the UN children’s agency.

James Elder, spokesperson for Unicef, said the festive spirit has been overshadowed by tragedy.
“For Gaza’s children, Eid is dominated by hunger, by grief, and by the silence of missing voices,” he said in a video message posted online.

Elder condemned the dire humanitarian conditions in the besieged enclave, warning that barely any aid is making it through.

“Let us demand that aid flow freely,” he urged, noting that the current trickle falls far short of what Palestinians need to survive.

Israeli forces have recovered the body of Nattapong Pinta, the last remaining Thai captive in Gaza.

Nattapong was working as an agricultural labourer in Kibbutz Nir Oz when he was taken captive by Hamas paramilitary forces during the attack on 7 October 2023.

Former CIA paramilitary officer Phil Reilly, who heads a private military company that is guarding Israel’s newly set up food distribution sites in Gaza, was a senior advisor at the US consultancy that is the latest partner to withdraw from the controversial aid project.

The Boston Consulting Group admitted last week that it was involved in developing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

It has since halted its involvement and distanced itself as 110 Palestinians have been killed and 583 wounded trying to access aid during GHF's 10 days of operations, according to local officials.

But Reilly's role with BCG, which ended only six months ago, raises questions about whether the consultancy was also involved in developing the security side of the aid operation.

Activists have hit out at a number of University of Cambridge colleges after they obtained court injunctions "criminalising" pro-Palestine encampments on campus.

Interim injunctions were obtained by Trinity College and St John's College earlier this week after campaigners re-established encampments in protest at what they said was a failure by the university to divest from Israeli companies.

A lawyer for the colleges has asked for the injunctions to be made final and to last 12 months, arguing that the protests have been disruptive to students taking exams and that the colleges are "concerned about the environment of fear and intimidation created by masked protesters".

Cambridge for Palestine (C4P) said the move amounts to "criminalising" protests on campus. The group posted footage on their Instagram page appearing to show police earlier this week threatening protesters with imprisonment.

Gaza’s Health Ministry has announced that its hospitals only have enough fuel to last three days, according to Al Jazeera.

“The obstruction of fuel supplies to hospitals threatens to stop them from operating, as they rely on generators to power vital departments,” the Health Ministry said in a statement reported by Al Jazeera.

This comes a day after the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that Palestinians in Gaza will lose all access to healthcare if the last two functional hospitals are not saved.

A grandmother has filed a complaint for murder and genocide against Israeli authorities, accusing them of responsibility for killing her two Palestinian-French grandchildren in Gaza.

Israeli forces killed six-year-old Abderrahim Abudaher and nine-year-old Janna Abudaher in northern Gaza on 24 October 2023.

Their maternal grandmother, Jacqueline Rivault - a French national living in France - filed the complaint on Friday in Paris alongside the Ligue des Droits de l’Homme (LDH).

The filing, submitted to the crimes against humanity unit of the Paris judicial court, accuses Israeli authorities of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
