Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has accused Israel of weaponising humanitarian aid while systematically targeting Gaza’s healthcare system.

The medical charity said Israel’s limited flow of supplies into the besieged enclave is being used “as a smokescreen to pretend” the blockade has eased - despite a wave of attacks crippling hospitals and clinics.

“The Israeli authorities’ decision to allow a ridiculously inadequate amount of aid into Gaza after months of an air-tight siege signals their intention to avoid the accusation of starving people in Gaza, while in fact keeping them barely surviving,” said Pascale Coissard, MSF’s emergency coordinator in Khan Younis.

“This plan is a way to instrumentalise aid, making it a tool to further Israeli forces’ military objectives,” he added.

According to MSF, more than 20 health centres in Gaza have either been damaged or shut down - completely or partially - over the past week due to advancing Israeli troops, relentless air raids, and mass evacuation orders.

The organisation warns that what remains of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure is on the brink of collapse, as medical teams struggle to function under fire.

Good morning Middle East Eye readers,

Here are the latest updates from the Israeli war on Gaza, now in its 592nd day:

  • Gaza bombardment intensifies: Israeli attacks killed at least 98 Palestinians on Tuesday, with reports of strikes targeting residential areas and medical facilities.

  • Famine deaths surge: At least 326 people, including children, have died from malnutrition and medicine shortages since 2 March. The UN warns 14,000 babies could starve to death within 48 hours if aid remains blocked.

  • Aid access collapses: No humanitarian supplies were distributed in Gaza on Tuesday, despite Israel’s earlier pledge to permit limited deliveries. UN agencies say Israeli restrictions continue to paralyse relief efforts.

  • UK and Israeli ties: Britain halts free trade talks and imposes sanctions on violent West Bank settlers, calling Gaza’s humanitarian crisis “monstrous”.

  • EU reviews Israel ties: The bloc warns it may reassess political and economic agreements, citing the “catastrophic” situation in Gaza.

  • Israel vows escalation: Army chief Eyal Zamir dismisses international pressure, pledging to expand military operations.

  • US resists global pressure: Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington will not join allies like the UK, France and Canada in threatening Israel with consequences over Gaza’s suffering.
