An Israeli strike on a home in Jenin in the occupied West Bank has killed six and left others wounded.

The victims of the air strike on Tuesday night have been identified as Mahmoud Ashraf Mustafa Gharbiyeh, 15, Mo'men Ibrahim Abu al-Hayja, 28, Amir Ibrahim Mahmoud Abu al-Hayja, 27, Hussam Hassan Qanouh, 34, Ibrahim Mustafa Qaneiry, 23 and Bahaa Ibrahim Abu al-Hayja, 33.

Others wounded during the strike are reportedly in stable condition.

Eyewitnesses reported that an Israeli drone fired three missiles near al-Awda roundabout in the Jenin refugee camp, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

A statement by the Israeli army confirmed that "an Air Force aircraft attacked a short time ago in the Jenin area" in a joint operation with the Shin Bet intelligence agency.

Hamas has been able to recruit almost as many new fighters as Israel killed during its ferocious offensive on the Gaza Strip, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a farewell speech where he said that mediators were "on the brink" of a ceasefire.

Blinken’s remarks on Tuesday at The Atlantic Council in Washington DC provide a rare window into US intelligence assessments of Hamas’s strength, which is likely to ruffle Israel’s positioning after a potential ceasefire, given its stated objective of “total victory and the eradication of Hamas”.

While Israel succeeded in decapitating Hamas’s leadership in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran, Blinken suggested that the group remains a power in the Gaza Strip and could complicate plans for post-war governance of the enclave.

Blinken’s speech comes in the final countdown of the Biden administration’s days in office. It was unusually forthright and laced with criticism of the US’s ally.

Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has emphasised the importance of addressing what comes after a potential ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that it alone won’t provide a lasting resolution.

In remarks made in Oslo, Eide acknowledged signs of an imminent ceasefire, describing them as “more concrete and promising” than before. However, he cautioned that while a ceasefire would be a welcome step, it would not resolve the underlying issues.

“A ceasefire is not a solution,” Eide stated. “It would bring the release of hostages, Palestinian prisoners, and an end to hostilities, but it won’t undo the damage of the past or restore the situation to how it was before October 6, 2023.”

He said the international community needs to focus on what happens next and work towards a long-term solution, including Palestinian statehood and institution-building.

The armed wing of Hamas, the Qassam Brigades, have paid tribute to three Palestinians who were killed in an Israeli bombing raid on Jenin camp, naming the victims as Baha Abu al-Haija, Amir Abu al-Haija and Ibrahim Qanari, Al Jazeera Arabic reported.

In a statement, the Qassam Brigades condemned the ongoing Israeli siege, calling it a "failure" of the Israeli forces.

"The suffocating siege of Jenin camp for over 40 days has been another defeat for the Zionist enemy," they declared.

The statement added that Israel's efforts to extinguish the spirit of resistance amongst the Palestinian people have "failed," reinforcing the resolve of those still fighting.

The Media Committee in Jenin Camp has held the Palestinian Authority accountable for the deadly Israeli attack on the camp overnight, which killed three Palestinians.

In a statement, the committee said: "We hold the authority fully responsible for the Israeli massacre in Jenin camp. The authority’s siege of the camp made it easier for the occupation forces to carry out the assassination and kill our people."

The Israeli army reportedly expressed satisfaction with recent operations conducted by PA forces in the Jenin refugee camp, according to the Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA).

Over the past month, operations under Israeli military oversight have involved approximately 300 armed PA personnel.

Israel's Central Command has recommended strengthening the PA’s security apparatus and increasing collaboration.

Following this advice, the Israeli security cabinet instructed the army to bolster its collaboration with PA forces.

Israeli authorities have detained a 21-year-old man from the illegal settlement of Givat Binyamin, accusing him of incitement after he posted anti-army messages in the area.

The suspect allegedly hung posters that read, “All army soldiers are involved in genocide in Gaza,” accompanied by Palestinian flags and the statement “Israel is a terrorist state.”

The police claim the suspect admitted to ties with pro-Palestinian groups during questioning. Digital devices seized in the investigation reportedly contained material labelled as incitement.

Gadi Eisenkot, a former Israeli war cabinet minister, has revealed that some members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition view the restoration of illegal Israeli settlements in Gaza as a key objective of the ongoing war.

Responding to remarks by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who claimed ministers had “thwarted hostage deals in the past,” Eisenkot told Israeli Army Radio: “Ben Gvir is telling the truth, and that is why we left the government with a heavy heart, understanding there was no intention to advance the deal. There are ministers for whom the goal of the war is the restoration of Jewish settlement in Gaza.”

Ben Gvir, a far-right figure in Netanyahu’s coalition, has threatened to resign if the government agrees to a ceasefire deal being brokered in Qatar, which includes the release of captives.

While his departure would not topple Netanyahu’s government, Ben Gvir has called on far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to join him in opposing the deal, describing it as a “dangerous capitulation to Hamas”.

The Israeli military launched a sweeping campaign of raids and abductions across cities and towns in the occupied West Bank, eyewitnesses report.

Operations targeted multiple areas, including Jenin, Nablus, Qalqilya in the north, and Bethlehem in the south.

Witnesses described intense clashes in Qabatiya, south of Jenin, where Israeli forces used live ammunition and tear gas against Palestinians. In response, Palestinian youths hurled stones at the advancing soldiers.

Critics have condemned these actions as part of Israel’s systematic crackdown on Palestinians, intensifying the suffering in the already embattled West Bank.

Israeli drone strikes have claimed the lives of two Palestinians in the Khirbet al-Adas area, north of Rafah, Al Jazeera Arabic reports.

This brings the overnight death toll from Israel’s relentless bombardment to 24, according to medical sources. Of these victims, 17 were killed in attacks targeting central and southern Gaza.

The strikes come just a day after Israeli forces killed at least 63 people across Gaza, even as mediators insist that a truce deal is nearing.
