Israel-Palestine war: First week ends with over 2,500 Palestinians, 1,400 Israelis killed

Arab League foreign ministers will meet on Wednesday in the Egyptian capital Cairo, to discuss Israel’s “aggression on the Gaza Strip”.
The meeting is set to find "avenues of political action at the Arab and international level," Arab League deputy chief Hossam Zaki said in a statement.
Israel's rescue services are on their way to an Israeli settlement in Jerusalem after rocket fire was heard, which caused sirens to sound.
The rescue service, Magen David Adom, said that there are reports of some casualties.
Correspondents on the ground have reported that there are around four casualties, with their condition not yet known.
The rocket fire comes after Israel heavily bombarded Gaza throughout the night and earlier today.
Three universities inside Gaza have sustained heavy damage due to Israeli bombardment, according to reports in Al Jazeera Arabic.
Civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, mosques and residential towers have also been flattened in many areas.
Sirens are sounding in Jerusalem, with Israeli media reporting that rocket barrages have been launched.
Residents report hearing explosions.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The Israeli military is attacking Lebanese territory with combat helicopters, an army spokesperson has said.
The military fired artillery towards towns in southern Lebanon earlier, Al Jazeera has reported.
The attacks come after several fighters crossed from southern Lebanon and clashed with troops inside Israeli territory.
The Israeli army said the fighters were killed and Israeli media said several soldiers were wounded in the clash.
Hezbollah denied launching any operations into Israel, suggesting the fighters were Palestinian.
Shelters and Unrwa-run schools in Gaza are nearing capacity as Israel continues its heavy bombardment of the besieged enclave.
According to Al Jazeera correspondents on the ground, many of the schools and shelters are now nearing capacity, as more people flee from their destroyed homes.
“We’re able to receive up to 150,000 displaced people into our current structure; we’re going to assess how long we can receive them for, give them food and other items we currently have,” Unrwa spokesperson Tamara al Rifai, said.
The European Union suspended aid payments to the Palestinians and said it has placed 691m euros ($728m ) of support “under review” after Hamas launched its attack on Israel.
European Union Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi posted on social media: “All payments immediately suspended. All projects put under review. All new budget proposals, including for 2023 postponed until further notice. Comprehensive assessment of the whole portfolio.”

According to the ministry, other sites have also been damaged, including a radio station which belongs to them.
Translation: The occupation has destroyed civilian sites, including the headquarters of the Holy Quran Radio, affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments, and 10 mosques were partially destroyed.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health says that the Beit Hanoun Hospital has been rendered out of service due to constant Israeli bombing in close proximity to the building.
Emergency teams and medical crews have found it impossible to enter the hospital.
At least nine ambulances are also out of service.
The Ministry also states that extensive damage has been caused to the building, meaning it is no longer able to take new patients or treat existing ones.
Patients have been forced to go to the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza to receive treatment instead.
Kiryat Shmona, a city in northern Israel, has called on its residents to immediately enter shelters until further notice.
Footage captured by Palestinians have shown the moment Israeli warplanes launched repeated bombardment on one area, reported to be Beit Hanoun in Gaza's north.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said the latest death toll for the West Bank and Gaza has reached 576 people on Monday.
Most of the dead have come from the Gaza Strip, where the death toll stands at 560 after Israel launched air raids on the besieged territory.
Israeli forces have killed at least 16 Palestinians in the West Bank.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi praised Hamas’ attacks on Israel in a call made with the Islamic Jihad leader Ziyad Nakhaleh, local Iranian media reported.
“The Zionist regime is declining while the resistance front is conquering the peaks of victory,” he is reported to have said in the call.
He also called the attacks on Israel “brilliant and impressive victories”.
A Hezbollah official told Reuters the group had not mounted any operation into Israel, in comments after the Israeli military said it had killed a number of people who infiltrated from Lebanon.
Footage shared online shows frantic civilians in Gaza fleeing and searching for loved ones in the Jabalia camp, following heavy Israeli bombardment.
The camp, which is one of the largest in Gaza City, has been totally wiped out.
Civil Defence teams have not been able to reach casualties due to blocked roads and continued bombing.
