Israel-Palestine war: First week ends with over 2,500 Palestinians, 1,400 Israelis killed

Israeli fighters jets have reportedly struck the house of Yahya al-Sinwar, Hamas' leader in Gaza, Al Jazeera and local media have said.
It was not immediately clear if Sinwar or members of his family were home at the time.
Israeli forces have fatally shot a 13-year-old boy in the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Three Palestinians have now been killed and more than 30 wounded in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to Palestinian medics.
Meanwhile, nearly 200 Palestinians and 100 Israelis have been killed in and around Gaza.
Israel will cut off its supply of electricity to Gaza, Energy Minister Yisrael Katz ordered in an official decree.
International reactions have continued to pour in since the early hours of this morning.
Kuwait blamed Israel for the attack on the besieged Gaza Strip and expressed "grave concerns" over the situation unfolding in Gaza and Israel.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has normalised relations with Israel, urged restraint between the two sides.
The UAE's official news agency said: “[Abu Dhabi] calls for the exercise of maximum restraint and an immediate ceasefire to avoid serious repercussions."
Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit also called for an "immediate halt to military operations in Gaza" and "the cycle of armed confrontation between the two sides".
"Israel's continued implementation of violent and extremist policies is a time-bomb depriving the region of any serious opportunity for stability in the foreseeable future."
Palestinian fighters have captured "dozens" of Israeli soldiers and officers, the spokesperson of Hamas's military wing Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades has said.
In a brief statement posted on Telegram, Abu Ubaida said the captured soldiers are now kept in safe places underground.

Israel has bombed more than one high-rise building in recent hours.

The Palestinian health ministry said one person was killed in Jericho and the other in Ramallah.
A spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC) said at least 14 people have been wounded by live ammunition near Ramallah, and others were taken to hospital for teargas inhalation.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, the education ministry has announced that schools will remain closed.
Israeli fighter jets bombed a high-rise residential building in Gaza city, displacing its residents, Palestinian media have reported.
The building, known as Palestine Tower, is in central Gaza and includes 100 apartments, Palestinian officials have said.
The Israeli strike was captured live on Al Jazeera.
Similar Israeli air strikes on residential towers in the past have provoked a heavy response from Palestinians, who demand Israel avoid targeting civilian buildings.
Abu Ubaida, the military spokesman of the Al-Qassam Brigades, said Tel Aviv should brace itself for an "earth-shattering" response to the targeting of the building.
Israeli air forces claimed to have attacked two military structures inside Gaza, without providing the exact location.
Israel's opposition leader, Yair Lapid, says that he is willing to form an emergency government with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in light of the attacks from Hamas earlier today.
"In the current state of emergency, I am right to put aside differences, to establish with him a professional, limited emergency government, which will oversee the difficult, complex and protracted campaign which lies before us," he said.
"Netanyahu knows that with the extreme and dysfunctional composition of the current cabinet, it is impossible to wage war."
Lapid said that he has no doubt that the former Defense Minister Benny Gantz would also join such a government.
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), the humanitarian organisation also known as Doctors Without Borders, has said that Israeli forces have struck Gaza's Indonesian Hospital as well as an ambulance in front of the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.
According to MSF, the strikes on Gaza have killed a nurse and an ambulance driver and injured dozens of others.
The group asked all parties to respect healthcare buildings and infrastructure, which it said "must remain a sanctuary for people seeking treatment".
According to reports in Israeli media, Palestinians are still controlling large areas inside Israel, including communities and army outposts near the Gaza separation fence.
In some areas, Palestinians are also holding hostages inside their homes and other buildings, with exchanges of fire continuing.
Israeli security forces are yet to gain control in several areas, with dozens of Palestinians still inside Israel.
As Israel's attacks on Gaza continue, the death toll and number of those wounded have continued to rise.
Large numbers of people have arrived at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, hoping to get treatment.
Many Palestinians have told Middle East Eye they anticipate a long night ahead and a heavy response from Israel.
Families are seeking refuge in schools as attacks continue.
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari confirmed that Hamas has taken hostages to the Gaza Strip and that a number of Israeli soldiers have been killed in the fighting that broke out earlier today.
The number of Israeli soldiers that have been killed has not been confirmed, however, and Hagari said that fighting was ongoing in 22 locations.
He added that four divisions have been deployed to the separation fence with Gaza, alongside an additional 31 battalions already there.
Udi Aloni, an Israeli American filmmaker and writer, said that Hamas's assault on Israel was an "uprising of the hopeless" and "the end of which is known in advance".
"A Gaza ghetto uprising screaming to an indifferent world: we are here," he wrote in a Facebook post earlier today.
He continued: "The post does not justify or condemn. It describes a fact."
The Israeli health ministry says that around 908 people have been wounded and have been taken to hospitals for treatment in the ongoing attack.
Authorities say that 100 Israelis have been killed in the assault so far.
