The United Nations humanitarian office has expressed "deep concern" about the influx of displaced Palestinians to Rafah in the south of Gaza, driven by an escalation of hostilities in Khan Younis.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, warned that the border town has become "a pressure cooker of despair".
"We fear for what comes next," Laerke added.
