Unrwa chief discusses 'critical humanitarian situation in Gaza' with Saudi foreign minister
The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, said he raised the “critical humanitarian situation in Gaza” and risks to the region if “Unrwa cannot continue to provide services” in a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
In a post of its own, the Saudi foreign ministry said it “reaffirmed the kingdom’s support” for Unwra and “urged all donors to fulfil their responsibility in supporting humanitarian efforts” in Palestine.
At least a dozen mostly Western countries have suspended funding to the UN agency after Israeli accusations that several of its staff members participated in the 7 October attacks.
Since then it has come to light that there is no evidence that any staff members participated in the attack.
