US vice president calls for enhanced aid to Gaza in meeting with Israeli war cabinet member
During a meeting with Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz on Monday, US Vice President Kamala Harris pressed Israel for further actions to enhance the flow of aid to Gaza and emphasised the need for a "credible" humanitarian strategy prior to any military operation at Rafah, according to the White House.
"The Vice President and Minister Gantz discussed the situation in Rafah and the need for a credible and implementable humanitarian plan prior to contemplating any major military operation there given the risks to civilians," the White House said in a statement about the meeting.
"She urged Israel to take additional measures in cooperation with the United States and international partners to increase the flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and ensure its safe distribution to those in need," it said.
