Israel turning occupied Hebron into a ‘large prison’

The Israeli military has transformed Hebron and nearby towns in the southern occupied West Bank into what resembles a “large prison,” said the city's mayor, Taysir Abu Sneineh.

Quoted by Anadolu Agency, Abu Sneineh stated that the Israeli army has “turned the city into something akin to a large prison and imposed a policy of collective punishment”. Military checkpoints and iron gates have increased, and roads and entrances to cities and towns across the West Bank have been closed as Israel tightens its stranglehold on the besieged city.

Medical teams have struggled to transport patients, often needing to transfer them between vehicles at checkpoints. The mayor also noted that basic services, such as waste collection, have been disrupted due to the closures.

“People want to live with their rights in security and safety; removing those rights could lead to an explosion,” Abu Sneineh warned.
