Qatar says it has 'stalled' Gaza mediating role

Qatar says it informed Hamas and Israel 10 days ago that it would "stall" its mediator role in Gaza ceasefire talks after the last round of negotiation collapsed.

Doha said reports that it had withdrawn from the talks were "not accurate" and that it could resume them when "the parties show their willingness and seriousness to end the brutal war and the ongoing suffering of civilians".

Qatar also said that reports that it has asked Hamas' political leadership to leave were "not accurate," but it did not clarify whether the group's leadership would remain in the country.

"The main goal of the of the office in Qatar is to be a channel of communication between the concerned parties, and this channel has contributed to achieving a ceasefire in previous stages," Qatar's foreign ministry said in a statement.
