Former Israeli defence minister wanted for war crimes by ICC tours US

An arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has overshadowed his current visit to the United States.

In a show of defiance Gallant has posted non-stop on X, formerly Twitter, about this meetings with US politicians including the US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The ICC issued arrest warrants last month for Gallant and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Gallant, who was dismissed from his position on 6 November, began his US visit earlier this month to engage in talks with American officials about the ongoing Gaza conflict and broader regional issues.

On Tuesday, Gallant met with US Middle East envoy Brett McGurk at the White House, where he expressed optimism, saying there was a “real possibility for a breakthrough” in negotiations for a hostage deal with Hamas.
