Israel considering staying in Lebanon to pressure army: Report
5 January 2025 15:06 GMT
Israel is talking about potentially remaining in Lebanon following the 60-day ceasefire as a means of pressuring the Lebanese army, the Times of Israel reported, quoting an unnamed Israeli official.
According to the official, Israel would prefer to have the Lebanese army deployed in the south while ensuring Hezbollah's withdrawal.
"We don’t think that we’ll have the full backing of the US to break the ceasefire," the official said. "The feeling is that there’s no point in reopening that front."
