Israel has agreed to adopt a proposal by Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza.
The news came as the first phase of the ceasefire was set to expire on Saturday, the first day of Ramadan.
But an agreement has not yet been reached between Israel and Hamas.
Here is what else has happened:

Israeli drones and fighter jets were flying at a low level over the Jabalia refugee camp and other areas in northern Gaza.

The European Union expressed "grave concern" over Israeli military action in the occupied West Bank, which has destroyed "vital civilian infrastructure".

Israeli soldiers entered the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque as Palestinians performed their evening prayers.
