UN calls Israeli air strike on Iran’s Evin prison a serious breach of international law

The UN human rights office condemned Monday’s air strike on Iran’s Evin prison by Israel, calling it a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

Spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday that Evin prison, which holds political detainees, is not a military target.

He confirmed reports of fires inside the prison and an unknown number of injuries but did not name Israel.
