The State of Israel account on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, described a Palestinian nurse resuscitating a patient in Gaza as staging a "play".

The Arabic version of the account shared a video from inside a hospital in Gaza in which a nurse was giving CPR to a person who appeared to be unconscious.

"Miracles or plays?" the Israeli account asked in the caption.

"Plays by Hamas to elicit feelings," it added, before claiming the nurse was incorrectly performing CPR.

The account said chest compressions should take place on the left side, unlike what the nurse was doing.

This claim is false, according to the American Red Cross, which states that chest compressions are done with “two hands centred on the chest”, matching the actions of the Palestinian medic in the video.

An Israeli-German woman initially thought to have been kidnapped by Palestinian groups has been declared dead, her family has said.

Shani Louk, 22, was at a music festival in southern Israel on 7 October when the area came under a Hamas-led attack.

Louk was pictured in the back of a pick-up truck filled with armed Palestinians after the assault.

While it was unclear if she was alive in the video, Louk's family initially assumed she was wounded and taken to Gaza.

The family were informed on Sunday by Israeli officials that a bone fragment from Louk’s skull, without which she could not be alive, had been found and matched with the 22-year-old's DNA.

However, Louk’s body has not been found yet and it wasn't confirmed whether it's in Israel or Gaza.

An additional 21,048 people have been wounded, it added.

Some of Israel’s most senior economists have warned that the country faces an impending economic crisis following the country’s war on Gaza.

“You do not understand the magnitude of the economic crisis that Israel’s economy is facing,” said the signatories in an open letter to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

The country’s current economic plans were no longer viable, the group of 300 economists warned.

“Continuation of the current conduct harms Israel’s economy, undermines citizens’ trust in the public system, and undermines the State of Israel’s ability to recover from the situation it has found itself in,” the economists said.

They recommended non-essential expenditures in the budget to be immediately cut, and for funds to be diverted to deal with damages related to the war, aid to victims and internally displaced Israelis.

The International Monetary Fund earlier this year had already downgraded the country’s economic outlook because of deep political polarisation in the country.

Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has taken steps to halt the transfer of funds to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

He said he instructed the finance ministry to stop the transfer of payments this month in a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Smotrich cited alleged support by the PA, in the West Bank for Hamas.

Under the Oslo Accord, Israel transfers funds it collects on behalf of Palestinians to the Palestinian Authority.

Israel has regularly used the threat to withhold funds in the past in a bid to exert control over the PA.

“The PA has once again proven the fact, which we have been raising our voices about for years, that it is a terror-supporting organisation,” Smotrich said in his letter.

“Therefore, beyond the connection of these funds to the Gaza Strip and its residents, these funds are used for activities against the State of Israel and its citizens,” he added. “It is inconceivable that in this reality, we will continue to transfer these funds as if nothing has happened.”

An Israeli military incursion and intense bombing have been reported in the eastern and central areas of the Gaza Strip, MEE correspondent Maha Hussaini said.

Residents are rushing to markets to stock up on food and groceries as a result.

Israel has separated the different areas of the Gaza Strip from each other by bombing roads.

This means that residents of Gaza who are displaced in the south of the strip cannot now reach their homes in Gaza City.

Palestinian fighters targeted Israeli tanks operating inside the Gaza Strip on Monday, leading to clashes, Al Jazeera Arabic has reported.

At least one tank was spotted in the central-eastern part of the Gaza Strip on Salah a-Din road, some three km away from the fence separating Israel and Gaza.

The local government in Gaza said the tanks attacked two civilian cars with artillery fire.

An Israeli tank was seen inside the Gaza Strip on Monday morning.

Local journalists documented the moment the tank fired artillery towards a white car that appeared to be driving away. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

According to local media, the tank was seen in the central-eastern part of the Gaza Strip on Salah a-Din road, some three km away from the fence separating Israel and Gaza.

The area through which the tank is believed to have entered Gaza consists of mostly open land.

Israeli tanks and military bulldozers have been conducting limited incursions into areas near the fence, mainly in the eastern and northern areas of Gaza.

Heavy clashes were reported between the army and Palestinian fighters on Sunday.

Israel will not allow the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, to enter the country, according to reports in the Israeli press.

Khan, speaking from the Rafah border crossing on Sunday, expressed his desire to enter Gaza and Israel, to investigate potential crimes.

Israel is not a member of the court and therefore refuses the ICC's jurisdiction in the country.

The Palestinian Authority is a member of the court, however, Israel also refuses to allow members of the ICC to enter the occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza.

Impeding relief supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip could constitute a crime, Khan said on Sunday.

Speaking from the Rafah border crossing, he said that Israel must make "discernable efforts" to make sure civilians get basic food and medicine.

Israel has bombed the Rafah crossing at least four times since the start of the war on 7 October, hampering aid efforts.

Good morning MEE readers.

It is now the 24th day of Israel's war on Gaza.

According to the charity Save The Children, the number of Palestinian minors killed by Israel in Gaza since 7 October has now surpassed the annual number of children killed across all the world's conflict zones since 2019.

Over the past few hours, Israel's non-stop aerial bombardment has continued across Gaza.

Dozens of Palestinians have been killed in the overnight air strikes, but the final toll is not yet confirmed.

In the occupied West Bank, Israel's military launched several raids, including a large one in Jenin, which is home to a stronghold of Palestinian fighters.

Around 100 military vehicles entered the city, according to local media, and engaged in clashes with Palestinian fighters.

Four Palestinians were killed, according to the ministry of health, while another five were wounded.

In case you're just tuning into our coverage this morning, here's what you missed overnight:

  • An Israeli soldier was killed in northern Israel after a tank was overturned.

  • An Israeli air strike hit a Palestinian Red Crescent Society ambulance in Gaza.

  • Dozens more Palestinians in the West Bank were arrested as Israel launched incursions into multiple cities.

  • Hundreds of people stormed an airport in the capital of Dagestan, a region in Russia, on Sunday evening in protest of the arrival of a flight from Israel. Police said at least 60 people have been arrested.

  • At least 33 aid trucks carrying water, food, and medical supplies entered Gaza via the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, according to the UN. It's still a small fraction of the hundreds of aid trucks needed in the besieged enclave.

  • US President Joe Biden said he was committed to ensuring that Palestinians in Gaza are not displaced to Egypt. It was a strong statement, considering his budget request to Congress included funds for the possible displacement of Gaza residents to Egypt.

The Israeli military said in a post on social media that it attacked "600 targets" over the last day, as it expanded ground operations in Gaza.

It claimed it killed dozens of Hamas fighters who had barricaded themselves inside buildings.

Middle East Eye could not independently verify the calim.
