Philippines declares state of national emergency amid energy disruptions
25 March 2026 01:01 GMT
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of national energy emergency, warning of an “imminent danger” to the country’s energy supply.
The measure, set to last one year, aims to address disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials said the crisis has disrupted supply chains and driven up oil prices, “posing a threat to the country’s energy security.”
The government is expected to implement measures to stabilise fuel availability and protect the economy.
