Five Palestinians have been killed and 30 others injured by Israeli forces in the southern district of Rafah, Al Jazeera Arabic has reported, citing local medical sources.

The victims were taken to Nasser Hospital, but shortages of fuel resulting in power outages are complicating treatment.

Gaza's Health Ministry accused the Israeli army of "intentionally" destroyed electric generators at Gaza hospitals, including Al-Shifa Medical Complex, the Nasser Hospital, the Indonesian Hospital, and Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri is urging the US to pressure Israel to end the war in Gaza, ahead of Secretary of State Antony Blinken's eighth visit to the Middle East since 7 October to push for ceasefire efforts.

"We call upon the US administration to put pressure on the occupation to stop the war on Gaza and the Hamas movement is ready to deal positively with any initiative that secures an end to the war," Abu Zuhri said.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is due to arrive in Egypt on Monday in his eighth visit to the Middle East since the start of the Gaza war.

He is expected to push for the US-presented ceasefire plan and work on avoiding further expansions of the Gaza war in Lebanon.

Blinken is set to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo before travelling to Israel later on Monday, where he will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said its aid delivery operations through the US-built pier in Gaza have been “paused” due to safety concerns amid Israeli attacks on the strip.

WFP Director Cindy McCain told US broadcaster CBS that concerns over the safety of her team was the main reason behind this decision.

“I’m concerned about the safety of our people,” she said. “We’ve stepped back for the moment … to make sure we’re on safe terms and on safe ground before we’ll restart. But the rest of the country is operational. We’re doing everything we can in the north and the south.”

Meanwhile, the US is circulating an amended version of its ceasefire resolution at the UN Security Council, calling for a vote.

Most prominently, the clause stressing the Security Council’s opposition to the establishment of buffer zones in Gaza has been removed following pushback from Israel.
