The Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) has denounced the recent Hamas statements against the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Yesterday, Hamas accused PA forces of “directly” opening fire and killing Palestinian fighter Abdul-Rahman Abu Muna in Jenin, the occupied West Bank.

It says the remarks shows Hamas’s attempts to conceal the compromises it has been offering to “foreign parties”.

Fatah also said that Hamas is neither authorised nor qualified to negotiate for the rights of the Palestinians.

It said “a group of fugitives implicated in the blood of tens of thousands of martyrs has no right to collude with the occupation army and conduct their secret negotiations on the ruins and rubble of the Gaza Strip.”

The Yemen’s Houthis said on Tuesday that the group will restart their attacks immediately on any Israeli ship that sails through the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden.

On Friday, the leader of Yemen’s Houthis said the group intends to carry out its naval attacks if Israel did not lift its blockage of aid into Gaza within four days.

The Houthis had paused their attacks on any ships they believe have links to Israel after Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire.

The White House said the Trump administration will not tolerate individuals who are supporting “terrorists”, accusing Palestinian Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil, who was recently detained, of distributing pro-Hamas documents.

“This administration is not going to tolerate individuals having the privilege of studying in our country and then siding with pro-terrorist organisations that have killed Americans,” the White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Tuesday.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy for siding with terrorists,” she said.

The Palestinian activist was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who said they were revoking his green card, when he arrived at his home at a student resident facility with his wife, who is eight months pregnant.

Leavitt said that the Secretary of State has a legal right to revoke green cards or visas for those who act against the foreign policy and security of the US.

Earlier, the Huffington Post reported that 14 US representatives sent a letter to the secretary of homeland security, calling for the immediate release of the Palestinian activist.

The US and French embassies in Beirut have issued a joint statement stating that the delegation monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has met Tuesday in the city of Naquaora, located close to the Israeli Lebanese border.

The meeting was hosted by the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, a special taskforce of peacekeepers.

“The attendees discussed advancing the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, the full implementation of the November 26, 2024, Cessation of Hostilities arrangement, and next steps for addressing outstanding issues between Israel and Lebanon,” the statement reads.

“After the meeting and at the request of the United States, Israel returned five Lebanese citizens being held in Israeli custody to Lebanon,” the joint statement added.

Earlier, the Lebanese presidency said that four of the five had arrived in Lebanon, with the fifth expected to arrive tomorrow.

An Israeli delegation arrived in Doha on Tuesday for a new round of ceasefire negotiations, and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to join tomorrow, Israeli media reports.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that mediators have been trying to obtain a sign of goodwill from Hamas, manifested in a limited release of Israeli captives.

It said that the mediators are aiming for buying more time to reach broader resolutions between parties, and have quoted sources as saying that Israel proposes the release of 10 living captives on the first day and the rest on the last day.

Israel seeks to implement the plan proposed by US Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and extend the ceasefire for 60 days, according to Israeli radio.

As a new round of Gaza ceasefire negotiations takes off in Doha on Tuesday, Israel said it was ready to discuss releasing the Palestinian prisoners in stages, and refuses to discuss an end to the war.

While Israel seeks to extend the first phase of the agreement until mid-April, Hamas is pushing for a shift to the second phase, which includes a permanent cessation of hostilities.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified pressure by threatening to resume military operations and cutting off essential supplies to Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn enclave.

In the whole row over the BBC documentary Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, not one word was written about what this film told us about the way Palestinians are surviving a war that has spanned a year and a half.

None of the following voices appear to have been heard in the controversy over screening this film.

A woman fleeing with an empty water bottle, after another Israeli evacuation order, shouted to no one in particular: “God damn you all. May God curse you [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar.”

A boy told the camera in a deadpan tone: “We saw people dead in front of us. One had his guts coming out of his stomach. Are we in a safe place?”

Zakaria, an 11-year-old hustler scratching a living out of cleaning ambulances at al-Aqsa Hospital, explained how he worked alongside members of the media, doctors and paramedics: “I love being a volunteer. I want to volunteer for an ambulance unit.”

Five Lebanese captives, who have been detained by Israel, have been released and arrived in their homeland on Tuesday, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.

They were handed over to the Red Cross and are currently undergoing medical check-ups at the Lebanese-Italian hospital in the southern city of Tyre.

Earlier, Israel had said it agreed to release five Lebanese captives held during its war with Hezbollah.

"In coordination with the United States and as a gesture to Lebanon's new president, Israel has agreed to release five Lebanese detainees," a statement issued by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu read.

The US deputy special envoy for Near Eastern Affairs, Morgan Ortagus, says his country desires to see a “political resolution” to the border squabbles between Israel and Lebanon.

“When it comes to the border agreement, the land border agreement, there are 13 points – I think that six are still problematic,” Ortagus told Lebanese TV channel Al-Jadeed.

On Tuesday, the US  announced it is mediating talks between Lebanon and Israel to resolve outstanding disputes, including the release of Lebanese detainees and land border disputes.

Earlier, Ortagus released a statement saying the two sides are committed to maintaining the ceasefire agreement, and that five Lebanese captives have been released.

Israel and Lebanon had agreed to start talks over the disputed areas along their shared border.

It has been reported that the move comes following pressure from US President Donald Trump.

A senior Labour MP has called upon British ministers to take action after an Israeli minister secretly filmed their private conversation and shared it online.

Emily Thornberry, who is the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, said she was videoed without “knowledge or consent” while she was paying a visit to the Israeli Knesset. She said the video was later posted on Instagram by Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel.

She requested that the Foreign Office investigate the issue, ask for the video to be taken down, and for an apology from the Israeli side.

Thornberry asked for ministerial intervention as the Middle East minister, Hamish Falconer, answered her committee’s questions in the UK parliament.

Columbia University has called upon international students and scholars to avoid unnecessary travel, following the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil. The recently-graduated student was detained by immigration authorities for participating in protests against Israel on the institution's campus.

The university issued a statement on Monday citing reports about possible new federal travel bans, warning that visa delays or entry restrictions could prevent return to the US.

Khalil was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who said they were revoking his green card, when he arrived at his home at a student resident facility with his wife, who is eight months pregnant.

Meanwhile, the Huffington Post reported on Tuesday that 14 US representatives sent a letter to the secretary of homeland security, calling for the immediate release of the Palestinian activist.
